CNN seems almost confused and incredulous that people would have a problem with this idea, since Muslims died in the terror attack on 9/11, too
Plans to build a mosque two blocks away from ground zero have set off an emotional debate among area residents and relatives of victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
Cordoba House project calls for a 15-story community center including a mosque, performance art center, gym, swimming pool and other public spaces.
The project is a collaboration between the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative, both of which work to improve relations with followers of the religion.
Why should there even be debate? This is simply a horrendous idea which should have been discarded minutes after it was proposed. What purpose would this mosque serve, except as a reminder of what Muslims did to this country in the name of their religion? They would be wiping our faces in what people did in the name of their religion.
“It will have a real community feel, to celebrate the pluralism in the United States, as well as in the Islamic religion,” Daisy Khan (executive director of the Muslim society) said. “It will also serve as a major platform for amplifying the silent voice of the majority of Muslims who have nothing to do with extremist ideologies. It will counter the extremist momentum.”
No offense, Daisy, but, how can we believe that? How many mosques have we seen as supporting radicals and indoctrinating them? Ones used as weapons centers. If you were truly sensitive, you would move the site elsewhere.
Oh, BTW, the center needs no approvals what-so-ever. The land is owned already, and zoning will allow it.
Of course, I’m sure liberals will have no problem with this idea, since 42% of them think 9/11 was basically an inside job.
so Teach what about the private property rights ? Teach have you ever been inside of a mosque ?There are about 500,000 muslims in NYC
of course all muslims should be treated as if they are terrorists. It only makes sense to isolate them from our society in whatever way is possible. How else will they know that we despise them all ?
300 muslims were also murdered there.
and as for that poll the main task of the POTUS is to protect America. Bush failed to do that. When Rasmussen does further break down his numbers into those who actually believe that Bush MADE IT HAPPEN?LET IT HAPPEN the figures show that more on the RIGHT thought that Bush made it happen/let it happen. Teach that poll(from 2007) did you actually bother to read it all ? It is 17 pages. If you had you would have see that out of the total 1003 respondents selected a total of 91 lefties ( liberals progressives) replied Let it happen/made it happen. On the right side of the moderates (conservatives/very conservative/libertarian) a total of 92 thought agreed that Bush either let it happen/made it happen. The main truther today is Alex Jones and he is a conservative not a liberal
Bush failed to do that.
Really? How so? Be specific.
figures show that more on the RIGHT thought that Bush made it happen/let it happen.
Clearly the science and study of statistics eludes you.
September 12th, 2041: *The blade flashed. ‘lil johnnie ryan’s head rolled down the aisle of the mosque.*
‘That is the Last of the infidels who supported us in our time of need,’ Mustafa said.’
‘God is Great,’ Ahmad replied. “Now let us finish off the Jews his opponents were hiding from us.’
While they are free to build what they want, I think the siting\location would tend to cause disruption and disturbances. Haven’t we seen that merely wearing a US flag-based shirt is deemed disruptive for those in America?
I think planning board should deny this request. Bad taste and all.
This would be like the new nazi movement building a museum and education center near the Jewish Western Wall. IMHO.
William- you teach us little. Instead, you use your buttPirate Cove to incite the very hatred that brought on the 9/11 attacks.
What purpose would this mosque serve? I’m guessing it would serve as a place for people to gather and pray. I’m no religious scholar, but I think I picked up on what a mosque was by about the time I reached my 5th birthday.
Do you even know any Muslim people? Dust of that history book, chief. Google “conflict in the name of religion”. See if there might be a few other religions mentioned beside Islam.
You are one paranoid individual. Mosque in the neighborhood? Must be a terror attack on the way! How can you possibly be this stupid? http://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif
Let’s stick to the present. Which religion currently has the prize for having terrorists? Which religion has the honor of honor killings? Which religion has the distinction of beheading in the name of their god? Which religion has the belief that they must spread their good news through the sword? Which religion has PRESENTLY killed over thousands of innocent civilian people and has tried to kill many thousands more innocent civilian people? Which religion HAS the intolerance built in to its doctrine? Which religion believes that pedophilia, wife-abuse and male chauvinism are key parts to divinity?
It was not our fear of them that lead to 9/11, it was their hatred of us. Prior to that, we had no real fear of what they could do. Now, seeing what we have seen on TV, knowing what their sick minds are capable of, we do fear them.
I don’t live in fear, Captain Screech. And neither do most people I know. It’s you paranoid right wing haters who live in fear. You are weak. You are soft.
And to answer just one of your moronic questions- obviously whatever religion you subscribe to HAS intolerance built into its doctrine. Three to five minutes on your blog would lead any rational person to this conclusion.
So, it is not OK to hate the haters? We must tolerate them? We must bow down and allow them to be who they are and do what they want?
Yeah, that makes me a hater. Fine.
BTW, I hate mean people too. Do I get double-points for that?
The liberals and leftwingers are the ones typically decrying about tolerance and intolerant people. Yet, they don’t tolerate the right’s or Christian Right viewpoint. But we are to tolerate every one else’s? Even those who seek our destruction?
“Three to five minutes on your blog would lead any rational person to this conclusion.”
Umm.. So, the Constitutional Conservative belief is now a religion?
Sure, it’s fine to hate the haters. No, we musn’t tolerate them. And finally no, we musn’t “bow down and allow them to be who they are and do what they want”. I never said anything like your mischaracterizations.
What I said was that it is not ok to fear them. You and every other candy assed CONservative who promotes a culture of fear might win votes for republicans, but you do our great country a great disservice. Don’t be such a chickensh!t. This country has bigger problems than some depressed Corey Felman lookalike who thinks he can bring a building down with a couple m88s and a gas can. Toughen yourself up, Screech.
Ah no, the “Constitutional Conservative belief” is not a religion. Never said it was.
How do you know that the folks behind the proposed NYC mosque are haters? Generalize much?
Bunny, Sorry, but I was actually replying to your comment that insinuated that I was a hater of other people’s beliefs. Which is the subject of this topic – respecting other people’s beliefs to the point of allowing this mosque to be built next to the former site of the twin towers.
Why is it not OK to fear them? I fear their hate. I fear their drive to kill and inflict death upon innocence. I fear their ideology that spreads through violence and domination. How does that make me and my brethren soft?
We feared the expansion of Nazi and Soviet expansion during their time. We feared the expansion of N. Korea and N. Vietnam. Currently, we are fearing the death and mutilation squads, the belief that it is ok to kill innocents, the standardization and acceptance of pedophilia and violence against women, by the muslim religion.
These fears do not make us soft. As anyone who fought during the great world wars. They were afraid. But they did their duty with bravery and determination. Fear does not make one soft. It makes you aware.
“Ah no, the “Constitutional Conservative belief†is not a religion. Never said it was.”
let’s refresh here…
you said,
“And to answer just one of your moronic questions- obviously whatever religion you subscribe to HAS intolerance built into its doctrine. Three to five minutes on your blog would lead any rational person to this conclusion.”
Thus, you believe that the blog I post on is a religious-based blog. It is not. It is a blog that has some foundation in Constitutional Conservatism. Yet, its primary purpose is highlighting the hypocrisy of news organizations through their use of photography. We also highlight other issues such as our current enemies, which one of them happens to be Islamic extremists like Iran, al-Queda and Taliban.
And no, I never said that those who are behind the NYC 9/11 site mosque are haters. What I said was, “While they are free to build what they want, I think the siting\location would tend to cause disruption and disturbances. I think planning board should deny this request. Bad taste and all.”
And, yes, I am generalizing. Don’t planning boards always generalize when they approve or disprove building permits? “no, no, you can’t build apartments there. apartments are bad for the neighborhood. you have to build them over there! with the other apartments.”
Nazis and the Soviets, eh? Let me know when al-Qaeda marches into Poland and then I’ll worry. Meantime, I’ll continue to live a life free of paranoia, hate and misunderstanding while you worry your way to right wing blogosphere fame.
“the belief that it is ok to kill innocents, the standardization and acceptance of pedophilia and violence against women, by the muslim religion”
Pedophilia? Really? Most of the pedophilia I’ve been reading about has been committed by members of a religion other than Islam. Haven’t you heard?
