Well, so far, the ending looks to be funny as heck
A sit-in at Senator John McCain’s Tucson office Monday led to a trip to jail for four people, three of them illegal immigrants, and could now mean that they will be kicked out of the country.
“We’re dedicated,” said Yahaira Carrillo, who came to the United States 18 years ago illegally with her parents. “This is home. I don’t know what life is like in Mexico, I don’t know what working there is like.”
“Everyone was very supportive,” said Mohammad Abdollahi about the staff and officers whom he met on Monday. He came with his parents from Iran more than twenty years ago, when he was three years old.
If you are an illegal, perhaps you should not pop your head up and put yourself in the crosshairs of law enforcement. Seems pretty common sense, especially since ICE initiated deportation proceedings against the three. Though it is doubtful that Abdollahi will be deported, since he is from Iran, and is gay (the other two are illegals from Mexico, whose parents brought them when they were much younger). Which is why I have maintained that there are certain circumstances where we cannot just get rid of them all. Nor can we just provide amnesty. There needs to be a big fine. Pay back taxes and Social Security fees. They must speak, or learn, English. They must have a damned good reason for staying. And, like most other countries require, these people must provide value. Otherwise, hit the road!
And we need to secure the borders first, before anything is even considered.
Meanwhile, the Costa Mesa city council has declared that it will not be a sanctuary city, and will crack down further on illegals. Of course, there always have to be a few whiners
The resolution passed despite pleas from community members. No one in the audience spoke in favor of it.
“Immigrants are part of America,” Silvia Hernandez told the council. “We work, pay taxes, go to church and participate in our communities. We need a solution that brings people out of the shadows.”
Yeah. Legal immigrants. Most of the rest are criminals, and can get the hell out.
This morning Bill Bennett read a portion of the FEDERAL immigration law that has been on the books for over 50 years. It states that all immigrants MUST CARRY documents to verify their status at all times, and can be stopped and asked for them without reason. Without any other reason than a lark or a suspicion. I’d say that the Federal law is far more strict than and more easily corrupted than the AZ law is, and that the AZ law goes to great lengths to guarantee fairness. Why can’t anyone SAY THIS OUT LOUD SO THAT THE STUPID LIBERALS CAN HEAR IT? Was I shouting?
And we need to secure the borders first, before anything is even considered.
Frankly I have never understood this “silver bullet” approach. Even though it is the government, I would like to think that we can walk and chew gum at the same time.
I believe that we should be securing the borders and at same time we should be deporting those who are here illegally and at the same time fining those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
For the life of me I can’t see why we can’t and aren’t doing all three at the same time.
Gitar, exactly.
What needs reforming, is not the laws we have, it’s the illegals who keep breaking them! There’s your immigration reform for ya!
As long as there is a liklihood that they can get away with their crime of coming into our country illegally, nothing will work to end it. There will always be more people willing to break our laws- because so many can still slip through without punishment. Until we secure our borders.
Finish the border fence first and foremost; send them home when we find them; and prosecute or at least fine anyone found to be supporting their illegality, either through employment or physical aid!

There is a nuance here that I disagree with. I don’t want to wait for the border fence to be finished. Waiting for the fence while allowing people to be in the country illegally will only add to the long term problem.
Working toward completing the fence can be done at the same time we are deporting those found to be here illegally. At the same time, we can be fining and or prosecuting those who knowingly hire an illegal immigrant.
Knowingly is an important distinction to me. If some company or individual hires someone after the government has said they are here legally, I don’t want that person or company to be held accountable for acting on the false information from the government.
For example, let’s say that there is a knock on your door and when you open it, there is a blond hair, blue eyed Addonis who says “Ms. Trish, would you like to hire my company to do your lawn work?” He gives you a good price. He shows you his official state / city issued business license. You call the local authorities and sure enough, his company is legit.
You hire him.
A few weeks later, there is a knock on your door and this time it is two ICE agents. They drag you out of your home and prosecute you because the blond hair, blue eyed Addonis was actually here illegally from Sweden.
What have you done wrong? I believe it is nothing. That is why I always add the qualifier that the employer knowingly hires an illegal immigrant.
If people want to hire someone without checking or ignoring the results of the check, that is on them and they should be prosecuted.
The reason I am fairly passionate on this is that back in the early 1980’s the government mandated new hiring procedures that required people to show proof of residency and a Social Security card. The employer would get this information, call it into the Social Security Office and get approval that the person was here legally.
The problem came when people that were approved by the government were then later found to have forged the papers and were not legally here.
The EEOC issued a set of rulings that despite having lied on the application, and despite presenting false identification, and despite having forged ID’s, companies could not terminate the employee’s employment. The companies were stuck with the employee even though they now knew he was here illegally.
I don’t want honest folks who are trying to comply and do the right thing to be caught in the governments incompetence.
Finish the fence ?? Why ? because the fence is 2/3 done now it doesn’t stop many of them does it. Do you think that it will take very long to put up a ladder ? or dig a hole under ? As long as Americans are willing to hirer them they will come and under cut American workers. As long as Americans are willing to utilize the illegals to work our farm crops, and do our landscaping cheaper than Americans they will come. If you don’t want them here don’t hire them. Oh and 50% of all the illegals here came under legal visas and then overstayed, the fence will do nothing for them. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5485917
Their are 3 million kids who have American citizenship and one or more family members who don’t, tell me how much it would cost to deport the parents and put the American kids in foster care. 150 billion ?
because the fence is 2/3 done now it doesn’t stop many of them does it.
In areas where the fence is complete, the flow of illegals through the region is much much less. Reality sucks, doesn’t it?
If you don’t want them here don’t hire them.
Is reading an issue for you?

You do realize that the article you cited is 4 years old and the changes advocated in the article have been made, right? You do realize that or are you just being dishonest for fun?

Parents will have to make tough choices whether to leave their children here or take them with them when the parents are deported. We can cross that bridge when we come to it. However, unlike you, I don’t advocate people benefiting from a criminal act. The child argument is just a distraction. We’ll see how important the kids are when the parents have to make the choice of allowing their child to be a political pawn, or staying with their parents.
Clearly you believe that the parents will all leave their children here.
That, of course, shows how much or little you know about people, parents and their children.
It says a great deal about your lack of character.
