Personally, I am generally in favor of CAFE standards, when they make sense. But, of course, you know the reason President Chump ordered this, right?
President Obama ordered the government on Friday to develop tougher fuel-efficiency standards for cars and trucks, advancing the fight against climate change without waiting for Congress.
Hey, wasn’t there some meme floating around between 1/20/01 and 1/19/09 about the unilateral president usurping the legislative branch by using signing statements and other means to force policy? Whatever happened to that? Because Obama essentially used a signing statement, thought the Times calls it an “executive memorandum.”
Mr. Obama announced the creation of a national policy that will result in less greenhouse-gas pollution from medium- and heavy-duty trucks for the first time, and will further reduce exhaust from cars and light-duty trucks beyond the requirements he had already put in place.
“Today’s announcement is an essential part of our energy strategy, but it’s not a substitute for other necessary steps,†Mr. Obama said in a Rose Garden ceremony on Friday, flanked by auto and truck manufacturers. He repeated his hope that Congress will pass an energy bill by the end of the year. “In the meantime,†he added, “I’m going to take every sensible, responsible action that I can take using my authority as president.â€
And will result in higher prices for consumers. Somehow, though, Pres. Chump thinks this will reduce costs
“This will bring down costs for transporting goods, serving businesses and consumers alike. It will reduce pollution,†said the President in a special Rose Garden ceremony today, where he signed a “Presidential Memorandum†that,  all with  other energy policy initiatives, tasks EPA and DOT to create the standards for new commercial trucks.
Perhaps a few decades down the road. In the inter-meaning time, costs will go up.
We’d be better off if Obama just mandated proper tire pressure. At least we wouldn’t see costs go up. Add this in with all the other costs that are going to go up from all the other legislation and executive orders, and those pennies soon turn into hundreds to thousands of dollars a year.
Costs will go up ?? I drive a truckI have a Class A CDL Most truckers I know think that the new engines cost about 1 cent more per mile to operate that is $25 more for a coast to coast run. For 25 tons of freight. 1 dollar per ton more to take something across the USA 1 dollar more to take 2000 pounds of cabbage gee I wonder how that will effect the cabbage price I pay ?
Actually I would think that an effort to have trucks use natural gas would make more sense. As I live in the middle of the Haynesville Shale, I really think the president should mandate such a concept.
Costs will go up ??
Why yes, Mr Economically Challenged, they will go up.
First is even assuming that the trucks get more mpg, the costs of refining that fuel won’t change. You will actually be paying more for the same gallon of fuel and I know you won’t want to eat that.
Secondly, the Feds are mandating more additives for fuel which increases costs.
Thirdly, while you talk about the new engines (of trucks are more than new engines) how is it that you haven’t purchased one of these nifty new engines?
Just another case of where you want to tell others what to do, but won’t step up to the plate yourself.
Screech- do you think that your overuse of the word meme makes you sound smart or something? Because it doesn’t.
