For a party that extolled the virtues of Abraham Lincoln, proclaiming Obama his modern day equivalent, the Democrats sure have forgotten that whole “by the People, for the People,” thing: Democrats Skip Town Halls to Avoid Voter Rage
The reception that Representative Frank Kratovil Jr., a Democrat, received here one night last week as he faced a small group of constituents was far more pleasant than his encounters during a Congressional recess last summer.
Then, he was hanged in effigy by protesters. This time, a round of applause was followed by a glass of chilled wine, a plate of crackers and crudités as he mingled with an invitation-only audience at the Point Breeze Credit Union, a vastly different scene than last year’s wide-open televised free-for-alls.
The sentiment that fueled the rage during those Congressional forums is still alive in the electorate. But the opportunities for voters to openly express their displeasure, or angrily vent as video cameras roll, have been harder to come by in this election year.
If the time-honored tradition of the political meeting is not quite dead, it seems to be teetering closer to extinction. Of the 255 Democrats who make up the majority in the House, only a handful held town-hall-style forums as legislators spent last week at home in their districts.
Well, I can certainly understand their reluctance to face the voters, after passing massively unpopular legislation, like the Stimulus, the follow on spending, the massive budget, the health destruction bill, failing to read the legislation the voted for, and so on. When you are thwarting the will of the People, when you are basically telling them to go to hell in a handbasket, one can expect some rage, particularly when the legislation has been shown to not work, and will raise costs and cause many problems for We The People in the future.
Of course, Democrats are throwing around all sorts of excuses, such as the good old standby “they were there to disrupt, not discuss.” In other words, the People should just sit down and shut up and listen, rather than elected officials listening.
Morton Kongracke said today in an op-ed piece that the White House would be happy losing only 30 seats in the midterm elections.
They believe the loses might be heavier which is why the Democrats have their blinders on and their heads lowered as they prepare to force cap and tax on us next and hopefully for them a new immigration reform bill before the midterms hit.
Obama is Custer and his dutiful Democrats are following him to the slaughter.
Hypocrites don’t like to hear the truth, so they avoid contact with honest people who will ask them to explain themselves for their behaviors past and those threatening us in the near future. It would be suicide for some of these losers…and they know it. They’d rather show their cowardice, than stumble through an encounter with their constituents.
