Let’s see: The NY Times pitches a hissy fit over Arizona police asking for the “papers” of those who have come in contact with the police during a lawful interaction. Obama sending federal agents around to companies to ask for the papers on their workers? No freakout. That’s strange, eh?
The Obama administration has replaced immigration raids at factories and farms with a quieter enforcement strategy: sending federal agents to scour companies’ records for illegal immigrant workers.
While the sweeps of the past commonly led to the deportation of such workers, the “silent raids,†as employers call the audits, usually result in the workers being fired, but in many cases they are not deported.
Over the past year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has conducted audits of employee files at more than 2,900 companies. The agency has levied a record $3 million in civil fines so far this year on businesses that hired unauthorized immigrants, according to official figures. Thousands of those workers have been fired, immigrant groups estimate.
Let me just say upfront, I mostly agree with this method. IMO, the best way to keep most illegals from coming to this country is to smack companies who hire them around, therefore, companies will refuse to hire them anymore, so, they will not come, and those who are here will (mostly) leave. I’ll give the Obama administration a thumbs up for doing this, though, it would work better if 1) it was publicized more, and 2) they freakin’ went and deported these illegals. The world is quietly getting out in the regions these audits are occurring, though, and, of course, there is some whining from illegals who were interviewed for the article, as well as some illegals supporting groups.
That said, the story points out that the feds are able to check way more companies by a single agent going in and auditing a company, rather than doing the old big sweeps. True. However, consider: whose papers are these agents looking at? Are they looking at them all? Or, are they engaged in “racial profiling,” and simply looking at the “papers” of those whose names appear Hispanic? The Times doesn’t ask, and doesn’t speculate, in a bit of hypocrisy to cover for their Messiah.

So, 2,900 audits generate $3,000,000 in fines (revenue?) or about $1,000 per audit. Now, maybe I don’t have any invoices from my accountant that show an audit done for $1,000, but I’m sure that the government, with its commitment to efficiency and the paltry amounts it pays its workers can accomplish this without any difficulty.
And, having been so grievously sanctioned by the government, I’m sure both “los ilegales” and their employers go and sin no more. No problema, ahora y siempre.
