Perhaps Barack Obama should worry less about a “patchwork of 50 different states acting on their own,” and more about the Federal government not screwing up and being the indirect cause of a nun’s death
The Virginia man suspected in a drunken-driving crash that killed a Catholic nun in Prince William County this weekend is an illegal immigrant and repeat offender who was awaiting deportation and who federal immigration authorities had released pending further proceedings, police said Monday.
Carlos Montano, a county resident, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and drunken driving. Mr. Montano had been arrested two other times on drunken-driving charges, and on at least one of those occasions county police reported him to federal authorities.
Also injured were two other nuns, both in critical, but stable, condition.
“I have been saying for months now that this administration’s new policy of concentrating almost solely on ‘criminal aliens,’ and not enforcing the laws by deporting known illegal aliens, would have devastating consequences. Now, we see the tragic results this ‘virtual amnesty’ policy of the Obama administration has caused,” said Rep. Harold Rogers of Kentucky, the ranking Republican on the House Appropriations homeland security subcommittee.
“A life could have been saved had ICE just simply done their job to begin with,” Mr. Rogers said. “By implementing selective amnesty one case at a time, the U.S. government is literally putting lives at risk.”
Great job, Obama. You can’t blame this one on Bush.
An American citizen with multiple DUI’s who injures or kills a pedestrian OR another passenger in a car, would serve time in a heartbeat. I have followed stories about local people who were all but persecuted, but seriously prosecuted for their drunk driving record, and subsequent accidents. Bravo for them doing jail time. Drunk driving is a crime AND a tragedy waiting to happen.
Now, what the heck was this moron doing back on the street- even after a first offense? He was an illegal alien and should have been jailed or deported period, for driving drunk. If this was a American college kid I’ll betcha they’d have locked him up and thrown away the key.
But no, this was an ILLEGAL ALIEN. A CRIME took place and to boot, he was here illegally. And they let him out of jail. Twice. How many ways can I say this before it sinks in? THE GUY HAD NO BUSINESS:
a) being on our roads
b) obtaining a license
c) driving intoxicated
d) driving intoxicated repeatedly
e) getting released pending trial
None. Of. These. Things. Are. Right.
And a woman is now dead from the inactions of a liberal PC legal system too afraid to do the right thing. But only, and I say from experience, only when it’s a matter of Political Correctness.
Exactly right. If this were you or I, or John, we would have been nailed to the wall. An illegal? Heck, did they think he would really show up for his own deportation meeting?
Ahh Trish maybe VA should have held him and prosecuted him instead of saving money and turning him over to the Feds. But at least now we can be happy that the nuns have gone to heaven I am sure that they hemselves would feel this way
You’re right, John, the States should take immigration into their own hands, since the Fed gov’t seems unwilling to do all they should do (I include Bush and some Republicans in this too, John)
We can be happy the nuns gone to heaven? Seriously? Wow.
