Nice to see a country actually take a stand against one part of Sharia
A Bangladesh court has ruled that people cannot be forced to wear skull caps, veils or other religious clothing in workplaces, schools and colleges.
The ruling came after reports that a college in the north had forced students to wear veils.
The high court also ruled that women cannot be prevented from taking part in sports or cultural activities.
Bangladesh is one of the so-called moderate Muslim countries, with a population that is mostly Muslim. I guess we will have to wait and see if the hard cases who reside in the country decry this ruling, and whether the moderate Muslims uphold this ruling. This could be a good step toward Muslim not being treated as second class citizens. One would think that women’s groups around the world would want to stand up for the treatment of women in Islamic countries, yet, the don’t. Related, Doug Giles wonders, as well.
Teach if you spent more time looking at where women’s groups operate you would see that in Afghanistan alone there are 23 http://www.stopvaw.org/Women_s_Organizations.html
Of course one might also ask why the rightwing of American politics doesn’t seem to give any recognition to the women’s groups? Or why the USA supports the ultra socially conservative Karzai government which recently passed a law saying it was legal to starve your wife? Or why the USA claims as a friend and spends BILLIONS supporting a government where the most common crime for a woman to be locked up in Kabul Jail (usually with her children) is for committing the crime of RUNNING AWAY from her husband? And then you ask why aren’t WOMEN”S. GROUPS doing more ? better look in the mirror for an answer to that question
And Teach what about in Israel where women must ride in the back of the bus because the orthodox jewish men think that they may be menstruating and thus UNCLEAN Or when Haredi patrols attack women for wearing PANTS or having exposed arms or wearing BRIGHT COLORS
‘lil lIAR’s writing is becoming ever more incomprehensible.
