All they wanted to do was see polar bears. And talk climate alarmism. But, mostly bears
I joined the Fram in Tromso, where Hurtigruten’s expedition cruise ship was making its debut ‘Climate Pilgrimage’. and what better classroom for learning about climate change than Spitsbergen, the Norwegian island home to the world’s most northern community of polar researchers. We set off, sailing past Tromso’s beautiful arctic cathedral.
Tony Michael, the only other Briton on board, was hoping for debate about climate change. But most of us were hoping hard for encounters with polar bears.
So, how’d that go, initially?
An eerie crack, crack, crack woke me the next morning. We were surrounded by ice and prevented from visiting the permanent Polish polar research station in Hornsund.
Bummer. Mother nature does what she will. They did eventually get to see some polar bears in the frozen tundra.
Say, how much CO2 did this trip put out?
