Remember the good old days, when politicians followed the spirit of the 1st Amendment, and did not attack private entities who used their God given right to criticize the government without fear of reprisal? That was the point of the 1st Amendment, both in spirit, and that “Congress will pass no law……” Enter the modern Democrat Party and their inept President
President Obama led Democrats in a coordinated attack against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Thursday, painting the business lobby as a corporate interest standing against open elections and U.S. workers.
Obama criticized the Chamber for opposing campaign finance reform legislation that would require corporations and unions to disclose the names of those making donations for political ads. He did so as the Associated Press reported the Chamber is airing $10 million in ads this week, most of which attack Democrats and their policies.
How dare the Chamber attack The One and his economy and business killing policies! For shame! Bad dog! No biscuit! Flayed skin! It’s not like
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. More than 96% of U.S. Chamber members are small businesses with 100 employees or fewer.
Interesting. They represent mostly small businesses, who have been seriously harmed by Democrat policies and their creation of an unstable business environment.
“Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign corporations,†Obama said Thursday at a rally in Maryland.
“So groups that receive foreign money are spending huge sums to influence American elections, and they won’t tell you where the money for their ads come from.â€
The attack by Obama follows a report by the liberal blog ThinkProgress suggesting the Chamber impermissibly accepted and spent foreign donations to support its political activities, an illegal practice which the Chamber has vehemently denied. It’s the latest in a series of skirmishes between Democrats and the Chamber, which have feuded repeatedly over the years.
That Think Progress piece Obama referenced was all supposition and innuendo, with no proof. The Chamber has denied it. Yet, buffoon Al Franken wants to hold Congressional hearings. And there goes another great American notion “innocent till proven guilty.”
The Chamber, for its part, scolded Democrats for their attacks while doubling down on their arguments that Obama’s policies were cutting off economic growth.
“This coordinated effort is a desperate attempt to silence those who support free enterprise and a diversion from their lack of progress on job creation,†said Tita Freeman, the Chamber’s vice president for communications.
This is what we have seen from the Obama administration and Congressional Democrats: silence the opposition in violation of the spirit of the 1st Amendment. Government should be afraid of its people. The people should not be afraid of their government.
