Normally, I would entitled this type of post “Friday Stupid,” but, really, these are liberals, and Common Sense (snicker) is ticked off that no one, including Bush, will be prosecuted here in the USA
In his memoir (which some wise people have already moved in bookstores to the CRIME section) George W. Bush admitted that he authorized that detainees be waterboarded, tortured, a crime under US and international law.
Bush’s crime confession coincides with reports that no one will face criminal charges from the US Department of Justice for the destruction of 92 CIA videotapes which contained interrogations using waterboarding.
They just can’t move on.
Bush and other criminals will be brought to justice if the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) have their way.
CCR and ECCHR jointly intervened into a criminal investigation in Spain examining the role of former civilian and military officials from the Bush administration in the commission of international law violations, including torture.  The investigation is ongoing and includes the crimes that Bush admitted he authorized.
CCR and ECCHR made it clear that they are committed to pursuing criminal accountability and Bush’s confessions help.  In a joint statement they said:
“As Attorney General Eric Holder stated during his confirmation hearings, waterboarding is torture. Calling these acts what they are, torture, is not the result of differing legal ‘opinion,’ as Bush states; it is a matter of law. Harold Koh, the State Department Legal Adviser, confirmed this in Geneva last week, stating during the U.S. Universal Periodic Review that “the Obama administration defines waterboarding as torture as a matter of law†and it is not a ‘policy choice.’
Their statement goes on (and on and on), slamming Bush and Obama. Personally, for all Obama’s early campaign rhetoric, I have a feeling that when he was The One sitting in the Big Chair with the information, his worldview changed a bit, and he has no intention of prosecuting Bush, Cheney, or anyone else, as he may one day be in the same position to have to make a choice like that which Bush had to make in the wake of 9/11. Use long, drawn on methods, which could mean another terrorist attack, killing many Americans, happens, or scare the pants off of a whopping 3 stone cold terrorists and get intelligence quickly? Things are much different when one is sitting behind the Oval Office chair, I’m sure.
Sure, there are some who truly think that waterboarding is mean, even to Islamic terrorists who would slit the throats of the protesters in a heartbeat. But, I suspect the majority are simply enraged with Bush Derangement Syndrome, as well as supporters of Islamic terrorists.
Crossed at Right Wing News and Stop The ACLU. sit back and Relax. we’ll dRive!
It’s not so much that they “can’t move on” as that they have to distract the public, if possible, from the tragedy of the Obama Administration and its co-partisans in Congress. Hailing back to the Bush years is about all they have left. They figure, “Hey, it served us well during the 2008 campaign, so why not?”
Good point, Francis. Their ideas and legislation are so toxic that deflections are what they have to do.
