Republicans Plan ObamaCare Repeal Votes Before State Of The Union

Incoming House Speaker John Boehner pledges that the GOP “Pledge To America” will not become a worthless piece of paper, much as the “Contract with America” became. Things will change. He has already put out the new rules, and plans to take them seriously. We’ll see. And one thing we’ll see soon will be votes to repeal ObamaCare

Soon after the 112th Congress convenes Wednesday, Republicans in the House plan to make good on a campaign promise that helped vault many new members to victory: voting to repeal President Obama’s health care overhaul.

The vote, which Republican leaders pledged would occur before the president’s State of the Union address later this month, is intended both to appeal to the Tea Party-influenced factions of the House Republican base and to emphasize the muscle of the new party in power. But it could also produce an unintended consequence: a chance for Democrats once again to try their case in support of the health care overhaul before the American public.

Yet, it’s not just the TEA Party members who want ObamaCare repealed. The latest Rasmussen poll shows that 60% of likely voters want it done away with, and “Fifty-five percent (55%) of voters now say the law will be bad for the country..”

Democrats, who in many cases looked on the law as a rabid beast best avoided in the fall elections, are reversing course, gearing up for a coordinated all-out effort to preserve and defend it. Under the law, they say, consumers are already receiving tangible benefits that Republicans would snatch away.

Oh, good. Now that the elections are over, they feel free to discuss one of their biggest “achievements”, giving the GOP another opportunity to pummel Democrats.

As part of our pledge, we said that we would bring up a vote to repeal healthcare early,” Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) said on “Fox News Sunday.” “That will happen before the president’s State of the Union address.”

“We have 242 Republicans,” he said. “There will be a significant number of Democrats, I think, that will join us. You will remember when that vote passed in the House last March, it only passed by seven votes.”

Fred also thinks there are enough votes in the House to actually over-ride a veto. Personally, I think he may be over-estimating that, but, we will see if Congress has decided to listen to the American People.

This whole health care business is making me sick! I am glad there is action against it!!!

What makes me sick is the fact that both parties are playing politics instead of trying to find a compromise in which the already existing measures that are beneficial to ordinary people would be kept and the imperfections would be eliminated. But it seems the political fight is much more important than affordable health care.
