I’ve written time and time again that the Warmists/enviro-weenies talk a good game about “alternative energy sources,” and love it in theory, yet, when push comes to actually building it, they say “Nyet”, in this case, the Ivanpah project
A U.S. conservation group has sued the federal government over its approval of a major solar power plant in the California desert, the latest in a string of challenges to the nation’s renewable energy goals from the environmental community.
According to court papers, the non-profit Western Watersheds Project alleged U.S. regulators approved Brightsource Energy’s 370-megawatt Ivanpah solar energy plant without conducting adequate environmental reviews, and asked the court to order the defendants to withdraw their approvals. (snip)
The complaint said the project’s approval process failed to analyze and mitigate the Ivanpah plant’s impact on migratory birds, the desert tortoise, which is a threatened species under federal law, desert bighorn sheep, groundwater resources and rare plants.
See? It’s always going to be something.
Interestingly, the WWP has no actual physical address, just P.O. Boxes. It’s almost as if they are a front organization or want to hide something.
why is it that you lump watershed management in with climate change people ? They actually have 2 different agendas, maybe they over lap sometimes, maybe not.
[…] Alarmists: We Love Solar So Much We’ll Sue To Stop It! I’ve written time and time again that the Warmists/enviro-weenies talk a good game about “alternative energy sources,†and love it in theory, yet, when push comes to actually building it, they say “Nyetâ€, in this case, the Ivanpah project […]
Here is why:
Quote from link:
“litigation†is the key, because in truth they are nothing more than a group of professional plaintiffs who have filed hundreds of lawsuits against the government and individuals to accomplish their goals. Between 2000 and 2009 they have filed 91 lawsuits and 31 appeals in Idaho alone and hundreds more throughout the West.
And this is an organization that has been funded in part with the hard-earned tax dollars of the American people to the tune of $1.2 million in Idaho Federal District courts alone by the abuse of the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA)
That Act needs to be overturned. People are getting rich by just suing the gov’t for whatever reason they can come up with. All the while, stopping legitimate man-saving projects.
Incessant and illegitimate litigation ramps up the costs of those projects.
And, it happens on nearly every site they want to install solar panels or windmills. And while I believe in getting these things started, I am wholly in favor of drilling for oil and digging for coal so that we have fossil fuels to keep us moving while we await the transition to cheaper and more stable wind and solar power.
Fact is, that envirowackos don’t want to find better ways to use alternative power. They. Want. Us. To. Die.
And they know that litigation will grind all of it to a halt.
