Even Al Gore is probably saying “please, Cynthia, you really aren’t helping”: Al Gore is right about snow and climate change
Even if Americans were more knowledgeable about the science of climate change, they’d have difficulty understanding the connection between a winter of extreme weather and a warming planet. A giant cold front has much of the country locked down under bitter cold and brought Chicago the most snow it has had in its recorded history.
When an article starts out by calling Americans stupid, and then saying even if they knew more, they’d still be intellectually unable to understand, the arguers positions is lost. But, then, this is wacky Cynthia Tucker. Why does the Atlanta Journal Constitution keep her around? Probably for the same reason many papers and media outlets keep the wackos around: they generate buzz, webhits, and, hopefully, revenue.
She goes on to mention Al’s silly response to Bill O’Reilly, one devoid of, you know, science, then gets to
Gore might also have noted the extreme weather in Australia, which is suffering through massive flooding and, this week, a huge cyclone. That follows a year of intense drought and forest fires.
See? Greenhouse gases cause everything….what? They’ve had those same things in the past before cars? That must be misinformation propagated by Big Business to confuse the issue and deflect away from the things that matter the most, and increase their profits! And, yeah, Cynthia does actually go on and on about “Big Business”. The one thing she forgot to actually add was….science! But, hey, she mentions that it is artists “who most brilliantly capture the foibles of human nature…” Well, the science is settled.
And, yeah, she has been skewered over and over and over again in the comments.
