I’m guessing you are shocked, shocked! that Obama would do such a thing
President Obama’s campaign speech has a new element: Osama bin Laden.
Obama cited the successful mission against the now-deceased al Qaeda leader during a fundraising speech last night in Austin, Tex., his first political speech since bin Laden’s death.
“We’re taking the fight to al Qaeda,” Obama said. “And because of the extraordinary bravery of the men and women who wear this nation’s uniform and the outstanding work of our intelligence agencies, Osama bin Laden will never again threaten the United States of America … We couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Obama and supporters will no doubt cite the bin Laden raid to promote the president’s nation security credentials as he heads into his 2012 re-election bid. At one point during his Austin speech, a supporter shouted out, “thank you for getting bin Laden.”
Well, at least he gave credit where credit was due for a change. However, is this a winning position for NMP Obama? Depends whether he keeps on giving himself a pat on the back all the way up to November 2012. His base is slowly coming around to the position that killing Osama in a “targeted killing” was the wrong thing to do. Independents and swing voters will get tired of the narcissistic victory laps. Republicans will be able to highlight Democrats whining about the use of 9/11 and use this against Obama. And, really, other than giving the “go!” order, what else does Obama have to campaign on? If the economy is still in the doldrums, he could be toast.
Carol at No Sheeples Here smacks around President Petulant for using Osama as a campaign prop.
