Snort – The Last Labor Day?

Super whiny bitch E.J. Dionne whines about this possibly being the last Labor Day

Let’s get it over with and rename the holiday “Capital Day.” We may still celebrate Labor Day, but our culture has given up on honoring workers as the real creators of wealth and their honest toil —the phrase itself seems antique —as worthy of genuine respect.

Talk about getting a bit unhinged over the potential for the GOP winning the White House and Senate in 2012, sheesh.

Anyhow, workers are needed to create wealth, but, if they want the big money, they can start a company. Funny how liberals who own companies tend to nickle and dime their employees. Oh, and Nancy Pelosi refuses to hire union workers for her businesses.

Nancy Pelosi refuses to hire union workers for her businesses.

But but, I thought California was a union state.

  2. Well, only when it is about the other guy. The big wigs hate hiring union. Consider Hollywood, which likes to shoot in places like Vancouver and North Carolina, where they do not have to use unionized workers.

I am always leery of people that take quotes out of context. In the cited article, Dionne takes Lincoln’s words on “labor” in the context of “work” and tries to make the case that it is the same as the labor movement or unions of today.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The fact of the matter is that our Labor Day is more akin to the May Day of Communist countries.

We should celebrate labor in celebrating the work of those in the past, present and future. What has happened is that unions have turned their back on the common working man. While only 9 – 11 percent of workers in the country are union, the unions hold far too much power and are willing to squash anyone – including some schmo trying to earn a living – if they don’t get their way.

That is not the “labor” Lincoln or the Pope celebrated and admired.

Shame on Dionne for perverting the words of others.

I think renaming it is a Capital idea.

amen Git, that’s the whole gist of this stupid comment; that since we’re not all in love with unions (which by their nature produce an awful lot of poor OR plain old lazy workers, with my apologies for those exceptions of whom my husband is one) then we hate ALL workers.
We LOVE workers, we know that it is workers who make and keep this nation. But with so many regulations and BS in our government, it is becoming harder and harder for businesses to have workers without going broke. And that is also in part, thanks to unions.
I’m sorry, but what are unions needed for again? I mean TODAY, with lawas and practices in place to protect every single worker, without the aid of a union thug at your side? What are they necessary for, other than to keep the union hierarchy alive and well and to elect Democrats for a continuation of eternity?

  6. Labor Day was created to pander to the violent unionized workers. Hilariously, the Wikipedia page on it mentions communism and stuff. During the 1880’s. Yes, there was Marxism, but, not communism.

What I love is why we need unions for government workers. I thought the whole point of unions was (originally) to protect the workers from harsh bosses, companies, and working conditions. So, are government unions saying government is a bad boss? Of course, now they simply exist to rip money and unbelievable benefits from the general public.

5 @ 5 on Fox, one of the commenters said something like “I think it’s appropriate to call a day that you sit around and do nothing Labor Day; what a perfect reflection of union workers!
