I blame you!!!!!!!!
(Grist) Only one in 10 kids goes outside every day. It’s hard to see how this is possible, unless the other 90 percent are Morlocks, but maybe shuttling between the front door and the air-conditioned interior of mom and dad’s SUV doesn’t count.
Anyway, the Nature Conservancy asked hundreds of kids why they didn’t spend more time outside. Their number one answer? “80 percent said it was uncomfortable to be outdoors due to things like bugs and heat.”
Obviously, we get
Maybe they’re whiny whinersons, but maybe they’re on to something. In case the arrival of autumn’s first breezes has made you forgetful, we just survived a record-breaking summer. And now climate scientists are telling us that the crazy summer we just went through is the new normal. At this pace, it looks like the entire country is going to turn into Houston, Texas. (“The most air-conditioned place on earth.”)
If there’s one thing climate change means, it’s more bugs and heat. Which means it could become harder and harder to convince our kids to get some fresh air.
See? Kids don’t go outside because of climate change! Personally, I’d lean more towards being “whiny whinersons”, and because mom and dad don’t kick the kids outside to play. Of course, that’s rather dangerous in today’s world, what with all the child predators being free to act because of soft laws passed by Liberals. But, no, has to be the climate change hoax.
The “study” is posted over at the Nature Conservatory.
In the 50’s, my mother would throw us outside at 8 am and lock the door. She would let us back in at noon for lunch, if we were still around. If it was really hot, she kept us in our rooms till about 3pm then back out with the locked door. Most of the time she had no idea where we were or what we were doing until we came back bloodied and beaten.
And she still does… WUAHAHAHAHHAHHAAAA
Ok, tell me how these kids KNOW the history of bug populations, density and distributions to know that bugs and heat have increased over the last summers in order to make the reasoned and sound judgment call to stay inside?!?!!?
Oh, please, these people need to get real. They have no connection to the real world.
Kids don’t feel the heat like adults do. In my community most kids go to summer camp, day or sleep-over, and there is NO air conditioning at camp. When kids get hot, they hit the pool, the lake, or the showers.
Given the choice, kids would undo their seatbelts and stick their little heads out the car window which is just how I road down the highways of this great country.
What a bunch of nannies/ninnies!
