How do we know? Because someone stepped outside of their computer model room and did that sciencey investigation stuff
(Brisbane Times) Rising ocean temperatures caused by climate change are unlikely to mean the end of the coral on the Great Barrier Reef, according to a new scientific study.
The Cell Press journal Current Biology this morning published what it says is the first large-scale investigation of climate effects on corals and found while some corals were dying, others were flourishing and adapting to the change in water temperatures.
For the study researchers identified and measured more than 35,000 coral colonies on 33 reefs across the length of the Great Barrier Reef to see how they were responding to warming ocean waters.
For those who live in Science Fact Land, this is easy to understand, since the seas have actually been at much higher levels with warmer temperatures, which is how we get many islands and atolls above sea level during this period in time. For those who are Science Challenged, coral lives in the ocean. Coral created atolls and islands could only be created by sea levels being higher previously. Then they subsided, probably because dinosaurs switched from petroleum to Chevy Volts. Alakazaam! Islands and atolls!
Anyhow
In results they have described as ‘‘surprising’’ the study found while one species declined in abundance, other species could rise in number.
Golly willakers, Batman, our computer models and hysterical ranting doesn’t stand up when we leave the comforts of our lecture halls.
The warming of the ocean’s temperatures due to climate change will change the composition of coral reefs and while this will mean the end for some species it will mean others are adapting to survive.
*Gasp*! You mean evolution happens? The Earth and life on it is not stagnant? I suspect Darwin would smack Warmists around for not realizing that Things Change.
‘‘The accelerating impact of climate change on coral reefs is of major concern worldwide,’’ the report said.
The article ends up with even more hysterical doom and gloom rantings, despite their research saying “yeah, a changing climate isn’t much of a deal at all.” I’d be more concerned with the other things mentioned, like over-fishing and pollution, real issues, but, no, they have to go for the climascare, meaning the real environmental and ecological issues will be ignored, which is a damned shame.
Crap. This is horrible news. We know climate scientists’ predictions are ALWAYS wrong…
Well, in all fairness, not so much a prediction as scientific facts, before they started spinning this as horrible news.
