Boy, this is going to make the hard news media, especially those in the White House press corps, really, really, really happy
(Mediaite) Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning, President Obama’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said that the president’s interviews with entertainment media like People magazine and Entertainment Tonight are just as important as ones he conducts with national political media.
Responding to recent criticism that the president is “unavailable†to the political media while doing lightweight interviews with entertainment publications and local media outlets, Cutter told CNN that entertainment interviews are “Not more important, but equally important.â€
“I think that’s where a lot of Americans get their news. And the president will continue doing that,†she asserted.
She does have a point in that many people get their “news” from places like Entertainment Tonight and People, but, they generally do not get their hard news, political news, government happenings news, US and World News, etc, from those outlets: they’re finding out about which celebrity is sleeping with another celebrity. Over at People we have hard hitting stories like
- Ryan Lochte parties in two cities in one night!
- Cory and Lea: Too Cute!
- 10 wet dogs shake it off (no, this has nothing to do with them working up a sweat running away from Obama because they don’t want to be barbecued…..yeah, cheap shot)
Entertainment Tonight isn’t any better……oh, and neither features Obama on the front pages, despite the interviews.
I have a feeling that Jay Carney will not have a good press conference today with the White House press corp
