The Sierra Club Board of Directors has approved the one-time use of civil disobedience for the first time in the organization’s 120-year history.
Recognizing the imminent danger posed by climate disruption, including record heat waves, drought, wildfires and the devastation of superstorm Sandy, the Sierra Club board of directors has suspended a long-standing Club policy to allow, for one time, the organization to lead a group of environmental activists, civil rights leaders, visionaries, scientists, and other high-profile individuals in a peaceful protest to dirty and dangerous tar sands. The action will be by invitation only and is being co-sponsored by 350.org.
The Board apparently understands exactly who their base is, and will do all they can to weed out the ones who will become violent. Vandalize. Destroy property. Get arrested. Etc. Oh, and leave lots of litter behind. Their signs. Coffee cups. Cigarette packs. Drug paraphernalia. Talking points papers. Processed foods boxes. And these people are the norm for who shows up.
“For civil disobedience to be justified, something must be so wrong that it compels the strongest defensible protest,†said Michael Brune, Sierra Club Executive Director.
“We are watching a global crisis unfold before our eyes, and to stand aside and let it happen — even though we know how to stop it — would be unconscionable. As the president said in his inaugural address, ‘to do so would betray our children and future generations.’â€

Inexpensive energy is desirable. Expensive ethanol-based energy takes money out of the pockets of the poor. “Green” politics hurts everyone. Bring back $1.87/gal gas!! America was better off under GWB than under the despicable 0bama. Strewth! No denying it!
What the Sierra Club is REALLY mad about is the fact that the ultimate Authority — Planet Earth — is making fools of their Club.
There is nothing either unusual, or unprecedented happening with global temperatures. In fact, the past 150 years have been a true “Goldilocks” climate: not too cold, not too hot, but just right. A change of only 0.7ºC over a century and a half is unusually flat.
Further, extreme weather events have been moderating downward for decades. Tropical Storm Sandy just happened to hit a densely populated area. That’s all. …oh, and it hit just two days before the election, allowing Obama to be on every TV station 24/7, without having to give Romney equal time. THAT was the real disaster!
And what is worse… the confidence interval around that is 0.35C.
Smokey, Smokey, it’s really unfair to bring facts to a climate fight…not that Warmists will listen to them, remember them, or think about the implications of them.
