Funny that they’ve waited till now to do this, rather than during the very cold and snowy previous two months
(WSJ) Most of the Senate’s recent late-nighters have been courtesy of Republicans, with GOP lawmakers seizing the floor to talk about unmanned drones or the new health law, to name two topics that claimed a combined 34 hours over two stretches last year. On Monday, Senate Democrats will take their turn, dedicating an all-night session to climate change.
Beginning after the Senate’s Monday evening votes, 28 members of the Democratic caucus plan to speak until around 9 a.m. Tuesday to push for action on climate change. In a nod to the social media frenzy generated by recent GOP floor dramatics, Democrats already have their Twitter hashtag ready: #Up4Climate.
“On Monday we’ll be sending a clear message: it’s time for Congress to wake up and get serious about addressing this issue,†said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D., R.I.), who gives a weekly speech on climate change on the Senate floor. His nearly constant prop: a large poster-board with a photo of Earth and the slogan “Time to Wake Up.â€
I wonder if these Senate Dems realize that Democrats control the Senate? Oh, and that they’ll use lots of electricity to hold the silly session? Remember, Warmists state that use of electricity causes “climate change”. Oh, and I wonder how they’ll get to the Senate? Fossil fueled vehicles? How did Whitehouse get from Rhode Island to D.C.? A fossil fueled flight, per chance?
(HuffPo) The following senators are participating: Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Patty Murray, (D-Wash.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Barbara Boxer, (D-Calif.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Mark Udall (D-Colo.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Angus King (I-Maine), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.).
Every single one of them took some form of fossil fueled travel to get to D.C. On Monday, make sure to tweet them questions like
- Have your replaced all the lights in your offices and homes with CFLs/LEDs on your own dime?
- Will you pledge to give up your own fossil fueled travel?
- Have you placed solar panels on your own homes?
- Do you take showers lasting no more than 2 minute?
- Is your life “carbon neutral”?
- Are you super scared by a miniscule 0.14F increase in global temps since 1997?
There are lots more to be asked, I’m sure you folks can think of a few.
The Pirate urges his minions (4 or 5 of them?) and the right-wing band of howling monkeys to Tweet:
Have your replaced all the lights in your offices and homes with CFLs/LEDs on your own dime?
Will you pledge to give up your own fossil fueled travel?
Have you placed solar panels on your own homes?
Do you take showers lasting no more than 2 minute?
Is your life “carbon neutral
Are you super scared by a miniscule 0.14F increase in global temps since 1997?
As was proven in another thread here, the Earth continues to warm from the continued addition of CO2 to the atmosphere. The professional Coolists, such as the Pirate, want to distract their readers from the facts and dwell on whether Democrats walk to work.
Teach do you consider your own lifestyle to be in political perfection?
I have no idea what “political perfection” is and I doubt that john does either.
The point that Teach makes and is so well demonstrated by john, Jeffery and others is that they demand that you adjust your lifestyle, but they will not.
They demand that you sacrifice, but they are above it.
They demand to steal from you, but they want to keep all of their possessions and money.
The military has a term from people like them and it applies here: REMF’s.
That is all they are. People who cannot and will not lead from the front but instead want to tell those on the front line what they should be doing at the expense of the people on the front lines.
Jeffery and john are prime examples of REMF’s.
g2,
You claim knowledge of my lifestyle and john’s. Do you have any evidence to support your claim?
I am not demanding anything. Concerning global warming, I recommend that we all reduce our carbon emissions. If every American had the carbon footprint I’ve had for my lifetime we wouldn’t have to have this conversation.
Just another smear based on false information from those that will not argue evidence or data.
The Earth is warming despite your falsehoods.
I can only go by what you have said Jeffery. Are you now denying your previous statements? Or are you going to claim that you cannot remember what you said?
Project much?
Jeff,
You have not proven a thing. You have bantered about temps, many of which are “adjusted”. You have not answered a single question about CO2. Your post have convinced many that there is most definitely not an issue here. As for me, I am lighting up my fire place and burning a big load of dead fall (I mean huge). Then I am getting in my SUV and going out for awhile and not feel one ounce of guilt. If the price on any of this goes up, I will use my SSA to pay the difference.
dave,
So you do not believe the temperature record? What do you mean by “adjusted”? Do you even know?
I told you I will no longer discuss CO2 with you until you reveal the nature of your carbonic acid fetish. You have not. (You seem to lack even a rudimentary understanding of basic chemistry anyway.)
How do you know that my “post (sic) have convinced many that there is most definitely not an issue”? Do you pass my posts around to “many” and discuss? Are you in contact with “many” that read this blog? Or did you just make it up? Yes, I suspect you just made that up.
I do not care one whit about your personal habits.
What we do know is that the Earth is warming because of CO2 emissions.
g2,
“We do know the earth is warming because of CO2.” No, we don’t. We have computer models that say it should warm, but it isn’t. and even if it did, that’s still no proof of AGW.
There could be something there that my browser is blocking because other than “g2,” I don’t see any comment from Jeffery.
Perhaps he suddenly came to the realization that what Lincoln said was true:
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.”
— ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
g2,
Even empty the comment gave you more consideration than you deserved.
Removing all doubt, Jeffery proves that Lincoln was right.
According to the philosophy of the Pirate, that most conservatives accept help from the Federal gov’t completely invalidates their arguments about “smaller government”.
Good to know we can ignore the Tea Party whiners until they prove they accept no Fed help.
Questions you must answer:
Have you ever had your freedoms compromised by receiving unemployment payments?
Have you ever had your freedoms wadded into a ball and crammed down your throat by accepting Medicaid?
Have you (shudder) had your freedoms seized by accepting a Federal paycheck?
Have you ever had your freedoms shat upon by accepting Medicare or Social Security?
Let’s tell it like it is. Any conservative politician that sucks at the teat of the Federal gov’t should and must be ignored. This includes Senators Cruz, Paul, Lee, Rubio et al and Reps Bachmann, Broun, King et al. Their message is false because of their hypocrisy. The Pirate has spoken.
Can you point out where I’ve written that, Jeff?
Oh, and have you made your life carbon neutral?
J pulls out the same old crap and gets called on it again. If you’re worried about people taking money from the federal government, why not focus on the almost 50% of the workforce that pays no income tax? And where in the world does the belief in smaller government somehow mean it’s hypocritical to receive federal funds? Where do you think the money originally came from, professor?
jl,
The money comes from unicorns farts and rainbows, don’t you know?
Jeffery likes to think of himself as some sort of intellectual superior leftist. In reality, he has the same skills in debate, logic and information as a 1st grader.
Jeff lives in the same fantasy world most hard core lefties inhabit, where they assign motives without fact, just simply make crap up. This is similar to how they casually throw around words like racist, bigot, anti-science, anti-women, etc, with no basis in reality. Oh, and how they are complete bigots on practicing what they preach.
jl,
Did you mean to imply that conservatives aren’t part of the 47% that make so little that they pay no income tax? Or do you just assume that the 47% are lazy black folk? And of course you realize that wage earners pay payroll taxes, right – some 40% of all Federal taxes.
Why is it hypocritical to whine about a too big Federal government but suck at the teat of the Federal government? Really? For exactly the same reason the Pirate considers it hypocritical for a climate realist to have any carbon emissions. Conservatives should set an example and forego sucking at the Federal teat, the same way that the Pirate insists that climate realists give up all fossil fuels use.
The Pirate erred and typed:
“Can you point out where I’ve written that, Jeff?”
Conservatives insisting on smaller Federal gov’t while hypocritically being part of the bigger Federal gov’t is the problem. It’s exactly like you insisting that climate realists are hypocrites for using any fossil fuels at all.
“Oh, and have you made your life carbon neutral?”
I’ll tell you when you tell me that you refuse any Federal help.
So the answer is “no.”
Of course there is a difference that everyone in the room but Jeffery can see.
With the Federal government, money is being taken by the government regardless of the wishes of the people from who the money is being taken. The people also have little or no control over the way the money is spent.
On the other hand, people like Jeffery believe that controlling emissions in their life – something they have direct control over – should not be done and to even suggest that people live by their beliefs – the beliefs they foist on others – should not be an issue.
Yeah. Like the two are related.
It is really a simple case where in his limited mind, Jeffery believes his hypocritical life and actions are acceptable.
Such is the mind of a liberal.
g2,
Spin, spin, spin your hypocrisy any way you wish. When will you give up sucking at the teat of America? The biggest part of our big government are the entitlements – half of which go to conservatives. If you want to cut government shouldn’t you set a good example and stop sucking first?
I probably pay more in Federal taxes than you earn in a year. Do you think I’ll get all that back? No, my tax money pays for benefits for others, some liberals, some conservatives – many in Red States that take much more from the Federal gov’t than they pay in.
So I’m a hypocrite for minimizing my carbon emissions, advocating higher taxes for me and my bracket so I can contribute more to supporting several conservatives financially, who are advocating that they continue sucking at the teat of Uncle Sam while at the same time cutting payments to “others”.
You advocate cutting government for others, just not for yourselves.
Such is the “mind” of a conservative.
Jeffery,
Ah yes. Once again Jeffery is projecting his traits and faults onto others.
Nice try little one.
I doubt it, but that is fine. Either way, you are the one advocating that taxes should be raised without you actually giving more. Once again, you own actions on positions you claim to hold show your hypocrisy.
So I’m a hypocrite for minimizing my carbon emissions, advocating higher taxes for me and my bracket so I can contribute more to supporting several conservatives financially,
Dude…. please learn to read. You are a hypocrite for not minimizing your carbon emissions and yet demanding others limit theirs. You are a hypocrite for demanding others pay more in taxes to the government when you yourself won’t give more.
You’re one of these people who scream and yells about what others do but won’t do it yourself.
As I said previously, you are a REMF – you tell people what they should be doing and yet are afraid to put it all on the line in your own life.
I guess now I can expect some pithy, childish response from you such as “kiss my ass” because that is just about the level of intellect you have.
g2,
You’re an idiot.
Suck it.
Did I call that or what?
Poor widdle Jeffery. He can’t help acting like a child.
g2,
You didn’t call it, you caused it.
While you suck it, think about this.
As I clearly said, I’ve always lived a low carbon life, even before it was stylish. I advocate we all do likewise.
As I clearly said, I advocate all wealthy pay more, myself included, and lower taxes on those like you.
So it’s clear. You’re a hypocrite for sponging off the Federal gov’t at my expense while you advocate that others be cut off. I am not.
Come back when you have something to say.
I caused it?
You mean I somehow managed to come over to your computer as you sat in front of it and through some sort of Vulcan mind meld caused you to act like a petulant child with limited vocabulary?
I caused that?
Yet you have also said that you won’t voluntarily pay more in taxes even though the tax code allows you to do so. So once again we see you advocating for others to be compelled to do what you won’t do on your own.
That’s hypocritical.
Wow. I would like to address the logic there, but there is none.
Once again you confuse being compelled to do something with acting in a voluntary manner. There is no way I can say to the government “since you won’t stop taking my money and spending so much, I won’t pay taxes.”
You want a larger government and think you should give more money to the government, go ahead and do so. Step up to the plate. Show that you are leader. Show that you believe in your cause.
(But we both know you won’t.)
You demand others do what you will not. That’s hypocritical. And to make matters worse, you then blame others for your lack of self control and the inability to make a cognitive argument.
Yeah. It’s always someone else’s fault when talking with liberals. Maybe someday you’ll become and adult and accept responsibility for what you do and say, but I am not not holding my breath.
