On one hand, this could describe most politicians, though it might be better to describe it as them pegging the bullshit meter. It is not a good thing when the POTUS is found to be a liar
(Fox News) About six in ten American voters think Barack Obama lies to the country on important matters some or most of the time, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday.
Thirty-seven percent think Obama lies “most of the time,†while another 24 percent say he lies “some of the time.†Twenty percent of voters say “only now and then†and 15 percent “never.â€
Question: should a POTUS even lie “only now and then”?
The number of voters saying Obama lies “most of the time†includes 13 percent of Democrats. It also includes 12 percent of blacks, 16 percent of liberals, 31 percent of unmarried women and 34 percent of those under age 30 — all key Obama constituencies.
The poll actually has a pretty good political identification sampling, with a Dem/Republican/Independent sample of 39/38/20. Only 8% of Independents say Obama never lies. 4% of Republicans say Obama never lies. 31% of Dems say he never lies (note: some of the numbers do not add up to 100% for all groups).
Again, there is a vast difference between political bullshit and straight up lying.
- “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.â€
- “My administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in government.â€
Those are two major whoppers. Here’s a list of 21 lies. And a list of 20 lies. And 252 lies. Are they all lies? No. Some are political BS, such as
“I don’t want to pit Red America against Blue America. I want to be the president
of the United States of America.â€
At what point does political BS cross the line to an outright lie? Thing is, Obama provides so much political BS on a constant basis that it is hard to see it as political BS and not a straight out lie.
When a President says Iraq has weapons of mass destruction resulting in the deaths of thousands of brave, young Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens. Maybe it wasn’t a lie, maybe it was just abject incompetence.
Is there anything that the left propaganda machine tells you that you won’t believe? Check your facts. WMDs were found in Iraq.
If you also remember, the issue of WMDs in Iraq was just one of many reasons given for invading. It was also a minor issue that was held up by the peaceniks as the main reason for the war and thus made into a major issue. Never mind the human rights offences Saddam committed. Never mind him thumbing his nose at the UN and the inspectors. Never mind him violating the cease fire from the first Gulf War among a myriad other things Saddam was doing to justify being invaded.
Add to that the reports of the convoys and cargo flights going into Syria from Iraq before the invasion.
You just knew that stale talking point would rear its head. Funny part is, everyone thought Iraq had WMD, including Dems. So knock it off, Jeff, and try and defend your liar in chief
I’ll accept his “lies”, compared to the alternatives, the Republics, any day.
“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.” President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998. “We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons through tout his country.” Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002. And on a side note, that was probably one of the last factual statements Gore ever made.
But neither Clinton nor Gore made the mistake of sending thousands of young Americans to their deaths in Iraq. Conservatives used the lies to justify their invasion of Iraq.
That administration deliberately mislead the American people into an invasion.
From the Senate Subcommittee on Intelligence Report:
Statements and implications by the President and Secretary of State suggesting that Iraq and al-Qa’ida had a partnership, or that Iraq had provided al-Qa’ida with weapons training, were not substantiated by the intelligence.
Ø Statements by the President and the Vice President indicating that Saddam Hussein was prepared to give weapons of mass destruction to terrorist groups for attacks against the United States were contradicted by available intelligence information.
Ø Statements by President Bush and Vice President Cheney regarding the postwar situation in Iraq, in terms of the political, security, and economic, did not reflect the concerns and uncertainties expressed in the intelligence products.
Ø Statements by the President and Vice President prior to the October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate regarding Iraq’s chemical weapons production capability and activities did not reflect the intelligence community’s uncertainties as to whether such production was ongoing.
Ø The Secretary of Defense’s statement that the Iraqi government operated underground WMD facilities that were not vulnerable to conventional airstrikes because they were underground and deeply buried was not substantiated by available intelligence information.
Ø The Intelligence Community did not confirm that Muhammad Atta met an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague in 2001 as the Vice President repeatedly claimed.
Jeffery has twisted morals and principles. It is Ok for his president to lie but not your president. don’t trust him around sharp objects.
Some Presidents lie to hide blow jobs, some lie to get health care to the poor and still others lie to march the nation to an unnecessary war, killing thousands of young Americans, crippling tens of thousand others and adding a few trillion $ to the debt.
Some lies may be worse than others.
Blick,
At any one time we only have one President for all of us. Mr. Bush was my President and Mr. Obama is your President. None should ever lie, but some lies are worse than others.
Nice try, J. 58% of the Democratic senators of the time voted for the resolution, while 40% of Dem representatives did. So I guess then they helped send thousands of Americans to their deaths, don’t you think? And what lies,J? As said elsewhere, there were WMDs found, and Iraq continually violated the no-fly zone, shooting at US aircraft. They also tried to assassinate the first president Bush. Those last two, especially the assassination attempt, have been throughout history more than enough justification for war, irregardless of the WMD issue- which did turn out to be true. So as usual you have no idea what you’re talking about.
Nice try, j. Only someone who gets all their info from FOX would claim that WMD were found in Iraq.
Yes, cowardly Dems also share in the responsibility for the Iraq invasion and occupation. But the Commander in Chief must take the ultimate responsibility – it was his call.

Denialism is an actual syndrome in conservative circles, and as comedian Rob Corddry observed many years ago, “Facts have a liberal bias.” I suspect since hard-core cons live in their cloistered media world that they don’t have access to actual facts. You probably really do believe that the Earth is not warming and that WMD were found in Iraq, because you have never heard the truth (until now!).
