More and more, scientists are escaping from the climate change compound, and are speaking truth to power
(Delhi Daily News) In a surprising development, a former NASA scientist on Monday described global warming as “nonsense” saying that it is “absolutely stupid” to blame human activity for the recent floods in the UK.
“It’s absolutely stupid to blame floods on climate change, as I read the Prime Minister did recently. I don’t blame the politicians in this case, however, I blame his so-called scientific advisors,” Professor Leslie Woodcock said.
“Events can happen with frequencies on all time scales in the physics of a chaotic system such as the weather. Any point on lowland can flood up to a certain level on all time scales from one month to millions of years and it’s completely unpredictable beyond around five days,” he added.
Professor Les Woodcock also said there is “no reproducible evidence” to prove that carbon dioxide levels have increased over the past century and slammed the green movement for misleading the people and inflicting economic damage on ordinary people.
“The theory is that the CO2 emitted by burning fossil fuel is the ‘greenhouse gas’ causes ‘global warming’ – in fact, water is a much more powerful greenhouse gas and there is 20 time more of it in our atmosphere (around one per cent of the atmosphere) whereas CO2 is only 0.04 per cent, Professor Woodcock told the Yorkshire Evening Post, adding “Even the term ‘global warming’ does not mean anything unless you give it a time scale. The temperature of the earth has been going up and down for millions of years, if there are extremes, it’s nothing to do with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, it’s not permanent and it’s not caused by us.”
Obviously, rather than rebutting Professor Woodcock, Emeritus Professor of Chemical Thermodynamics at the University of Manchester, with facts, Warmists will attack him personally, surely stating that he is in the pay of Big Oil and Big Coal, yammering on about denial and disinformation.

You frequently try to immunize those in agreement with you against criticism, by speculating what others might do. In fact, there is no need to attack Professor Woodcock personally. There is little to rebut. He is just simply wrong. The evidence does not support his position.
He made two verifiable claims (his other claims were just idle speculation and opinion):
1) “there is “no reproducible evidence†to prove that carbon dioxide levels have increased over the past century” is false. He is either ignorant of the data or not telling the truth.
2) “The theory is that the CO2 emitted by burning fossil fuel is the ‘greenhouse gas’ causes ‘global warming’ – in fact, water is a much more powerful greenhouse gas and there is 20 time more of it in our atmosphere (around one per cent of the atmosphere) whereas CO2 is only 0.04 per cent…” is true but irrelevant. Yes, water vapor is more abundant and is also a potent greenhouse gas but water vapor is not directly responsible for the increased heat retained by the atmosphere over the past century. Clearly, atmospheric water vapor content changes rapidly from hour to hour and varies greatly by location. Interestingly, the average atmospheric water vapor appears to be increasing as predicted by climate models, attributed to the warming from increasing CO2! Warmer air can hold more water vapor than cooler air.
Jeff,
I love it when someone without much education and clearly lacking in logic tries to debunk a prominent scientist. As I have said before, you do more to damage your cause than any of the critics.
dave,
Thanks. I would think I succeeded in debunking Mr. Woodcock’s rants.
Which one of the sticking points would you care to discuss?
1) His claim that CO2 is not rising or 2) his claim that water is the most important greenhouse gas? He’s wrong on both counts.
He IS correct that attributing a particular flood to global warming is impossible. But Woodcock’s ignorance on the other matters begs one to question his opinion even on the flooding.
Professor Woodcock is in a league of his own when he says:
“there is “no reproducible evidence†to prove that carbon dioxide levels have increased over the past century”.
Are there any other deniers on the circuit who deny that atmospheric CO2 has increased?
Why would you take anything this man says as relevant? Or did he misspeak or was he misquoted?
A Google search resulted in 399,000 hits on “former NASA scientist climate nonsense” with the usual suspects, i.e., FOXNews, ClimateDepot, Breitbart etc. Yet, did no one think to examine what Woodcock said? He said CO2 has not increased!

Jeff,
You have not debunked a thing. You have only repeated over and over again the same old talking points. That is not arguing science. Now, if you want some science. Why don’t you answer my questions of the last few months?
Jeff,
Reply to David’s previous comments. Also, where do you get your info that CO2 has increased this past century? Does it also state that CO2 rises and falls in a much larger timescale than you apparently, can understand?
