The Republican plan is better. Insist that no health care workers come back from West Africa. But if they do come back, lock them in a tent until they threaten to sue the state, then let them go. Above all, panic.
A Liberian man who had worked with an Ebola infected person, flew to the US and infected two healthcare workers. The family that he lived with was not infected. His fiancé was not infected. In fact, over 140 people Mr. Duncan had contact with have not developed the disease.
A doctor who had been treating patients in West Africa flew home and subsequently reported symptoms has been shown to be positive for Ebola. He is in isolation and being treated.
This is the extent of the US Ebola epidemic. 2 healthcare workers infected treating a critically ill patient. None of the healthcare professionals treating these 2 nurses have developed the disease.
If we continue to abuse our brave healthcare workers who risk their lives in West Africa, they will stop going, the epidemic there will worsen, increasing the worldwide threat.
Hi there! Would you mind if I share your blog with my twitter group?
There’s a lot of folks that I think would really enjoy your content.
Please let me know. Many thanks
Jeff,
That is so profound. I mean, it really got me with your insight. But let us try this out. We have a very, very bad plague in Africa that is killing thousands and for which there is no treatment. The death rate is about 70%. Our government can not respond to it for some reason. It makes me think that our government is broken due to its size and has ceased to function in a normal manner, this is evident in just about every sphere of influence. Now, a reasonable response to this crisis would be to limit travel by West Africans, especially to the US. This stopped the disease moving into neighboring counties in Africa and is very east to do. People have to have a visa and passport to enter the US (except Latinos). So refuse entry, problem solved on the disease entering the country. Then, instead of desiring only volunteers to represent our response to a crisis and that these volunteers are not coordinated in any manner except by some ad hoc organizations, let’s have the government organized relief efforts, like the did when the government used to work. Then those returning could be quarantined on return in adequate facilities and not subjected to the hysteria that is currently infected us due to a distinct lack of leadership. We do this for returning astronauts and animals from foreign countries.
That’s interesting, since Democrat govs are doing the same.
And, a nice strawman regarding Republicans insisting no one comes back from west Africa. Which no one is saying.
And what’s the Dem plan? Let potential Ebola carriers roam around free.
