By “changing rapidly”, does Mr. Reilly mean 18+ years with no statistically significant warming?
The MIT team estimated that global energy use by 2050 will double, largely due to increased use in countries developing where an industry is growing fast and getting bigger population and more wealthy have more access to personal vehicles. Globally, clean energy sources achieved some important advances, but the use of energy will continue essentially been dominated by fossil fuels. As a result, there are fears that global emissions will double by the end of the century. To stay below the 2 ° C warming above the average temperature on Earth was just before the Industrial Revolution, global emissions would have to stop further increase in the near future or even now, the report concludes.

But, anybody who believes that it is warmer now than it was in 1934-36 is a fool with a very short memory or no sense of history. Anybody who believes 2014 is the warmest year in history cannot even remember what happened last winter, spring, and what was a remarkably mild summer. Nope, didn’t happen because some scientist put out a chart that fooled me, so he can get his grant renewed for 2015.

How do we make this the warmest October ever. Well, for starters we massage the temperature record to lower Historical Climate Network by as much as 2 degrees F in the past. Then we put our heads in the sand and pretend that thousands of people didn’t die of heatstroke in the mid-thirties, that record droughts and the dustbowl never happened, then we faithfully nod our heads and drool when Chicago Jesus tells us that severe weather is getting much worse and wildfires are at record highs. Even though the actual data say the opposite. Because we think with our hearts, not our minds.

It’s interesting that the linked article includes precisely zero links to the study in question. You’d think they would be glad to get the word out. I also did a little research on co-author of the study, Mr. Reilly. He has degrees in economics & political science.
