It’s not necessarily a bad idea for there to be people at all college parties who are sober and responsible (these are mostly called “buzzkills”. Not all. I had a friend who rarely drank, was willing to drive, and was amused by drunk people) to make sure that Bad Things do not happen. That said, the idea of requiring monitors due to a manufactured rape story is ludicrous
(Raw Story) Fraternities wanting to throw parties at the University of Virginia will have to get three members to stay “sober and lucid†to monitor behavior and bedrooms, under new rules imposed after a media report of a gang rape at one of the gatherings.
UVA banned all social events at fraternities and sororities after Rolling Stone magazine published an article in November detailing an alleged rape at a party in September 2012, and accusations that the university failed to respond.
UVA President Teresa Sullivan said the ban would be lifted, as long as the organizations signed onto the new regulations meant to guard against excessive drinking and the risk of sexual violence.
There’s barely a nod at Raw Story that the Rolling Stone story became a fable, being mostly found to be false. Anyhow, via the Washington Post, the new rules are aimed only at fraternities. Seems rather biased, punishing people who did not break any laws or were involved in any wrongdoing.
We also find that kegs are not allowed. Wine may only be poured by a sober monitor. No pre-mixed drinks or punches. No unauthorized and pre-registered parties. Hard liquor can only be served by a hired bartender at Tier 1 events (doesn’t say what one is). Food and water must be provided. Security guards and guest lists are required for Tier 1 events.
But, hey, if the fraternity members are OK with this, that’s their business. It is interesting that they need these rules to protect women from sexual assault on college campuses, being that they are super left leaning.
And isn’t it interesting that the same problem, if not worse, exists in the right-leaning military?
Maybe the problem is young men.
The last year in my fraternity house (23 years ago) the university insisted we have 2 sober brothers (hey, what else are pledges for, and the university sent around people to check)and there was already talk of nixing kegs.
That shit has nothing to do with sexual assaults as the administrations would have you believe. It has everything to do with control (the lefties favorite past-time) and, I’m sure, a little payback that they were never invited into a fraternity. And there are fraternities out there for everyone.
Maybe the same problem has existed since boys and girls got together with alcohol.
Teach are you saying that Hoss was a lefty because he went to college and joined a frat ?
The worst thing is that all those college lefties are boning all the best hot chicks !!! About 2 out of 3
And of course at a high prestige school like UV you do get the best chicks showing up
How far from ECS is UV?
Let’s blame the right people. Men and boys who rape, assault and take advantage of women and girls.
It’s just too difficult to determine if someone wants to have sex these days. And it’s dangerous. You could be accused of rape, get an STD, or even wake up one morning to find you’re married!
I say we just outlaw sex and be done with it.
Not really.
