Without even seeing the legislation, Obama has made his position clear
(The Hill) The White House said on Tuesday that President Obama would veto legislation that approves construction of the Keystone XL pipeline if it passes Congress.
“If this bill passes this Congress the president wouldn’t sign it either,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest vowed Tuesday of the pending Keystone legislation.
There are 60 cosponsors of legislation in the Senate, meaning many Democrats are planning to vote for it. It will certainly pass in the House.
Earnest, though, said the president will not stray from the ongoing review process. He cited litigation in Nebraska over the pipeline’s route as the key reason behind Obama’s decision to not sign Keystone legislation.
He’s been putting this off for years, despite multiple approvals by his own State Department. He’s been delaying it for over 5 years, giving one excuse or another, along with other periods where he just ignores the issue. This goes against the will of the American public, who have said again and again that the pipeline should be built. The most recent poll was back in November, where a USA Today poll found that 60% said Congress and Obama should approve Keystone XL.
Keystone XL has become a cause celebre amongst Progressives, who despise the pipeline. Yet, they ignore the many other pipelines that are being and have been built during the same time period. Most needed approval by the Obama administration, and received it. The Winnipeg Sun has called Obama a hypocrite. This is all about Progressive political optics, not reality.
Teach please explain why you believe this pipeline should be built? Jobs??/ Why not use it to improve roads and bridges that will benefit many more people than the pipeline. Please explain why you think it is important for the Koch brothers to be able to ship North American oil to the world market. Please explain why you think it will be a good idea for gas prices to go up after midwest refiners who are the only current customers for tar sands bitumen have their prices increased by 30% to reach the world market price. Please explain why you believe that private land should be taken by eminent domain
Keystone has become a cause celebre among the radical right who wish to reward the Koch brothers for their campaign contributions to the GOP
John, do you practice being obtuse or does it just come naturally?
From what I’m sure is a trusted source, the WAPO…..
“The link between Koch and Keystone XL is, however, indirect at best. Koch’s oil production in northern Alberta is “negligible,†according to industry sources and quarterly publications of the provincial government. Moreover, Koch has not reserved any space in the Keystone XL pipeline, a process that usually takes place before a pipeline is built. The pipeline also does not run anywhere near Koch’s refining facilities. And TransCanada, owner of the Keystone routes, says Koch is not expected to be one of the pipeline’s customers.”
Hank, the problem is that -since John is a faithful tool of the Progressive movement- he doesn’t understand simple economics.
You know, concepts like greater production leads to lower (energy) prices, and increased employment leads to greater prosperity.
He thinks that wind & solar will save us all, not to mention allow him to worship at the alter of mother Gaea.
The actual facts are secondary.
John- Please explain why you know nothing about the Koch brothers.
He doesn’t need to know anything. He just regurgitates what leftists tell him.
Apparently if they can’t somehow blame Bush they blame the Koch brothers.
