As I’ve noted, the UK Guardian has gone all in on Hotcoldwetdry, seriously moving from journalism to activism. Like most Cult of Climastrology organizations, they are totally pimping the divestment from oil movement. For example, articles here, here, here, and here. Of course, as in most things Warmist/Progressive, their beliefs set applies to Other People, not themselves. We learn from Bishop Hill, via Barry Woods, of an amusing Guardian podcast
Amanda Michel: You know, there are big questions about asking people to do something that we ourselves have not done.
Aleks Krotoski: What Amanda is talking about is sorting out the Guardian’s own pots of money, their investments.
Amanda Michel: It will seem like hypocrisy.
Alan Rusbridger: We have about £600 million invested at the moment, and I don’t think our fund managers could say exactly how much was invested in fossil fuel. But it is there, we haven’t said that it shouldn’t be, so we have got money invested. And so, if we’re going to be calling on people to divest, people are bound to ask “Well, is that what the Guardian’s going to do?”
Climahypocrisy.
Watts Up With That? runs this cartoon by Josh regarding the above
You could run something similar for most CoC members.
If you can’t stravk the message always stravk the messenger
Yes the Guardian media group has announced plans to completely divest itself from fossil fuels. They will join other large funds such as Syracuse University and the Rockerfeller Brothers Foundation who have already done sohttp://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/apr/01/guardian-media-group-to-divest-its-800m-fund-from-fossil-fuels
The fossil fuel percentage in the portfolio of Guardian Group was quite low, in the LOW single digits
I would also expect the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to make a similar announcement shortly.
When/if they do will it effect your selling of any of their products ?
I think they need to organize one specific day or week when all these big groups sell off all their shares in fossil fuels en masse.
That should drive the price down, I can buy that week, and then as the price goes back up I should make a tidy profit.
PLEASE DO! DIVEST FROM FOSSIL FUELS! The only effect your action will have will be to drive the price of shares down in the EXTREME short term (for a few minutes) if anything at all. I’ll be there to snap them all up and make obscene profits.
