I think it is high time we have a National Conversation!!!!! on people living as someone they’re not
(Spokesman-Review) Controversy is swirling around one of the Inland Northwest’s most prominent civil rights activists, with family members of Rachel Dolezal saying the local leader of the NAACP has been falsely portraying herself as black for years.
Dolezal, 37, avoided answering questions directly about her race and ethnicity Thursday, saying, “I feel like I owe my executive committee a conversation†before engaging in a broader discussion with the community about what she described as a “multi-layeredâ€Â issue.
“That question is not as easy as it seems,†she said after being contacted at Eastern Washington University, where she’s a part-time professor in the Africana Studies Program. “There’s a lot of complexities … and I don’t know that everyone would understand that.â€
Later, in an apparent reference to studies tracing the scientific origins of human life to Africa, Dolezal added: “We’re all from the African continent.â€
That right there has to be a nominee for the best Weasel Speak of the year. The judges give it a solid 9.7.
Dolezal is credited with re-energizing the Spokane chapter of the NAACP. She also serves as chairwoman of the city’s Office of Police Ombudsman Commission, where she identified herself as white, black and American Indian in her application for the volunteer appointment, and previously was education director for the Human Rights Education Institute in Coeur d’Alene.
Her mother claims Czech, Swedish and German ancestory.
Rachel Dolezal dismisses the controversy as little more than an ugly byproduct of contentious litigation between other family members over allegations of past abuse that has divided the family. She’s particularly suspicious of the timing, noting that the allegations broke on her son’s birthday and come as the Colorado lawsuit filed by her sister against their brother nears a key juncture.
Her mother states that it came up when she was asked by local media. As for the controversy, City Hall is opening an investigation, since she essentially lied on her application to the Office of Police Ombudsman Commission. She has also been accused of manufacturing hate crimes. Eastern Washington University is doing what they can to distance itself from the issue.
Perhaps Ms. Dolezal and Elizabeth “Fauxahontas” Warren can get together for some afternoon tea.

Dolezal added: “We’re all from the African continent.â€

Should liberals treat race preference the same way that they treat gender preference? That is, you are whatever race you feel you are? And any detractors to your race identity claim are haters, bigots, intolerants, and need to be attacked online by the SJWs until they are fired from their jobs?
For now on, I demand to be called JaJuan Glanton. Anybody who does not will be publicly shamed as an intolerant racist and probable Aryan Brotherhood supporter.
Hey, if Bruce Jenner can tell us that he’s really a woman, and actually have people believe him . . . .
Dingbat: We’re all from the African continent.” Ok, then we’re all African Americans. I want my affirmative action right now!
You got it! You’re fired. And the next time you’re out jogging a cop will stop you and demand your ID, and then handcuff you and take you to the station for “resisting arrest”. Now you’re equal!!
Oh boy!! Now I can apply to Jeffery’s company where he will pay me minimum wage!
So you agree that those types of incidents happen to whites and blacks?
I agree.
Of course what you are missing is that none of this has anything to do with “affirmative action” which is treating people differently on the basis of race, gender, etc.
It is good to see that you support the ending of prejudice. Welcome to the conservative side of the argument.
[…] in Spokane, who is taking fire for saying that she’s African American (among other races) when she was really born white? Her parents, who blew her cover, pretty much admitted that she’s been telling herself, and […]
At least she was giving it a good try, with the Chaka Khan perm and all
I agree. Affirmative action should never be necessary.
On the other hand how do you address the inequalities that derived in a nation steeped in 2 centuries of white superiority codified by policy until a few decades ago?
Affirmative action has benefited the white supremacist class the most anyway. It’s a built in excuse for all your failures. If not for affirmative action, you could have been the center fielder for the Giants instead of Willie Mays. You could have had your own show instead of Oprah. You would have won all those NBA championships instead of Bill Russell. You would have been heavyweight champ instead of Ali. Obama took your spot at Harvard Law. Tiger kept you from getting your tour card. Colin Powell stole your spot in Vietnam and “they” made him Secretary of State. Beyoncé is keeping you off the cover of People.
All these organizations were in such a frenzy to prove to the feds they weren’t racists that they hired Black men who were no better than their white competitors!

In Grutter v Bollinger, the 2003 Supreme Court case in which the majority ignored the Constitution to allow government-sponsored Affirmative Action to continue, Associate Justice Sandra O’Connor wrote that the majority did not expect that the exceptions approved that day would be necessary in 25 years. Well, that quarter century is almost half-elapsed, the decision having been handed down twelve years ago.
Do you think that we’re half-way there yet?

‘Twould be amusing if you could actually cite whites saying this, other than sarcastically.
There was no Affirmative Action which helped the Celtics win those championships; it was their ability to put the ball through the basket at a higher rate than their competitors, and, last time I knew, the ball didn’t care what color the hand shooting it was.
Oprah Winfrey? She is in show business, and that’s completely egalitarian: she succeeded because enough people liked her product that they kept watching.
You’ve managed, backhandedly, to tell us that black Americans can compete with white Americans without any special help, yet you continue to advocate for special help.

Thanks for making my point. Don’t you find it interesting that Blacks excel at egalitarian pursuits such as athletics and entertainment? They compete pretty well. That is, they were able to compete once the organizations were compelled to allow them in.
Do you really think the child of a single mom in East St. Louis, consigned to a borderline school has the same life opportunities as Mitt Rmoney’s kids? Neither child had any input on whom they were born to, right?
George W. Bush is neither particularly smart nor hard-working yet attended exclusive prep schools, then Yale (like his dad) and Harvard. He avoided getting killed in Vietnam by avoiding going to Vietnam. His dad’s associates bought W a baseball team. W’s thug daughter, Jenna, has a history of alcohol abuse and petty crime, yet ended up with good jobs on TV. Fortunately, she was not shot and killed while breaking the law.
Yes, it would be nice if everyone was judged by the abilities rather than who their parents are.
Rehashing the white privilege arguments…
How quaint.
Denying that white privilege exists.
How quaint. How self-serving.
