Let’s see: the usual Leftist idiots blamed guns, ammunition, the Confederate flag, and wanted to institute all sorts of new background checks. How about if law enforcement, including the FBI, actually did the proper job in the first place?
(NY Times) The man accused of killing nine people in a historically black church in South Carolina last month should not have been able to buy the gun he used in the attack, the F.B.I. said Friday, in what was the latest acknowledgment of flaws in the national background check system.
A loophole in the system and an error by the F.B.I. allowed the man, Dylann Roof, to buy the .45-caliber handgun despite having previously admitted to drug possession, officials said.
Mr. Roof first tried to buy the gun on April 11, from a dealer in South Carolina. The F.B.I., which conducts background checks for gun sales, did not give the dealer approval to proceed with the purchase because the bureau needed to do more investigating about Mr. Roof’s s criminal history.
Under federal law, the F.B.I. has three days to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to deny the purchase. If the bureau cannot come up with an answer, the purchaser can return to the dealer and buy the gun.
In the case of Mr. Roof, the F.B.I. failed to gain access to a police report in which he admitted to having been in possession of a controlled substance, which would have disqualified him from purchasing the weapon. The F.B.I. said that confusion about where the arrest had occurred had prevented it from acquiring the arrest record in a timely fashion.
Mr. Roof’s application was not resolved within the three-day limit because the F.B.I. was still trying to get the arrest record, and he returned to store and was sold the gun.
So, the problem was government incompetence.
BTW, a handgun application also requires that the applicant state that they aren’t using illegal drugs. Roof lied. Weird how criminals do criminal things, eh?

Putting a fail safe on that sale may have prevented that mass race massacre Until the FBI gives its OK no sale is allowed. Of course that would only prevent a DEALER from selling him a gun, private persons selling guns such as at gun shows do not need the FBI to OK the sale

The reality is that no amount of government can protect you from a crazy person who wants you dead… With or without a gun.
No amount of government can protect you from a guy who wants to strap bombs to his chest and commit suicide.
No amount of government can protect you even from yourself if you choose to kill yourself.
The reality is that government is an illusion of safety. The general public are not mad max savages just waiting for government to look the other way so they can rape and pillage. That is a myth.
The average person is so opposed to violence against their neighbors that the military has to brainwash their recruits to become blood thirsty savages. It has been recorded in history that soldiers would purposely fire over the heads of the enemy to avoid killing anyone. They would be threatened if they did not shoot to kill.
So no amount of flags taken down from poles and no amount of laws will ever make a damn difference when it comes to whether or not someone decides to go crazy and kill others.
The best option for Anericans are to be well trained in the use of firearms in case they are the unfortunate but rare person who has to defend themselves and others around them from a mad man hell bent on destruction. You are your own best first responder… It is your responsibility to yourself, family and neighbors to be armed and trained for emergency situations.
The police are too far away to help you.
