Perhaps Mr. Obama should actually take a look at the Constitution now and then, because it doesn’t mean what he thinks it means
(CBS News) Freedom of religion isn’t reason enough to deny any American their constitutional rights, President Barack Obama said Sunday as he addressed members of the LGBT community, one of his major sources of political and financial support.
Speaking at a Democratic Party fundraiser, Obama said it’s important to recognize that some parts of the country remain uncomfortable with same-sex marriage and that it will take time for them to catch up to the majority of Americans who support such unions.
But while Americans hold dear the constitutional right to practice their religion free from government interference, he said that right can’t be used to deny constitutional rights to others.
Nowhere within the Constitution does it say that marriage, including gay marriage, is a Right. But, it does say “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;…” It also says something about “free speech” and “petition for redress of grievance”, which Obama’s IRS has worked hard to violate.
“We affirm that we cherish our religious freedom and are profoundly respectful of religious traditions,” Obama said during remarks that were interrupted by repeated applause and cheers. “But we also have to say clearly that our religious freedom doesn’t grant us the freedom to deny our fellow Americans their constitutional rights.”
“And that even as we are respectful and accommodating genuine concerns and interests of religious institutions, we need to reject politicians who are supporting new forms of discrimination as a way to scare up votes. That’s not how we move America forward,” he added. That was an apparent reference to some of the Republican presidential candidates.
The Constitution also says something about “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” Obama seems to be violating that, as he has taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.
Flipping it around, gay marriage is no reason to force someone to violate their deeply held religious beliefs. Obama’s essentially saying that those religious beliefs must be violated for the “rights”, ones that do not appear in the Constitution, of others. Instead of promoting equal rights for all, he is elevating the legislative/court imposed rights of certain people over the 1st Amendment Rights of others.

ALL religious beliefs are “manufactured”. In America, the US Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is indeed a right, so that government officials cannot legally prevent homosexuals from marrying.
While some homosexual couples now have pieces of paper from the government stating that they are “married” to each other, it simply isn’t so; marriage can only exist between a normal heterosexual couple, regardless of what the Supreme Court says.
I cannot change the Court’s ruling, but, for myself, I will always refuse to recognize a homosexual couple as being “married” in any way.
Dana. I don’t think too many couples really care very much what YOU personally think of their unions
Denying a marriage license because of gender is simple discrimination
Conservatives fought until 1970 to prevent inter racial marriage
Stop discriminating !!
Fourteenth Amendment: No State shall … deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Actually, they do, very much so; that is what the whole argument is about. If it had just been about hospital visitation or inheritances or things like that, the various civil unions and domestic partnerships laws that existed in almost every state would have been sufficient. They weren’t, because it was the word marriage which is important. They wanted the state to say, officially, that homosexual relationships are just as good, just as wholesome, just as normal as heterosexual ones.
And now the Supreme Court is saying that such is the case, but it’s still not so. I would not make homosexual relations illegal, as long as all parties involved are of age and consent, but it still isn’t normal.
It is odd that Leftists are OK with violating one right with another. It is Ok for businesses to discriminate against gun owners customers but against not against gay customers. It’s OK for gays to demand rights by violating the religious rights of others. It is OK for leftists to demand religious organizations to uphold the left’s agenda for abortions and birth control. I do think that if a business is serving the public they have to serve All customers and cannot pick and choose. That includes Christians, Sikhs, muslims, environmentalists, gun owners and non-religious; black or white, and democrats.
I guess Blick you also think that the ” no shirt no shoes no service” is out
Or any type of dress code
or nudity
Blick our laws do allow some forms of discrimination but not others
You are making an absurd comparison
Should abusiness (regulated by many different governments (local state Federal) be allowed to pick and choose which customers it chooses to serve based on race religion sexual orientation? Most people say NO.
Bob Hope said it best when he quipped, “I’ve just flown in from California, where they’ve made homosexuality legal. I thought I’d get out before they make it compulsory.”
Neither are you. Most Americans do not object to gays marrying. You’re abnormal in many ways.
We get it. Your discriminatory religious beliefs took a hit at the hands of the US government, so now you’re lashing out. Your manufactured religious beliefs are that homosexual behavior is abnormal, immoral and should be condemned by the state.
The Supreme Court of the United States disagrees with you that same sex couples can marry.
