Where’s the “affordable” part?
(Daily Caller) Obamacare premium costs will soar 20.3 percent on average in 2016 instead of the 7.5 percent increase claimed by federal officials, according to an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
The discrepancy is because the government excluded price data for three of the four Obamacare health insurance plans when the officials issued their recent forecast claiming enrollees would face only a 7.5 percent average rate increase in 2016.
When data for all four plans are included, premium costs will actually rise on average 20.3 percent next year. The 2015 Obamacare price hike was 2.0 percent.
This is for the 38 States that refused to set up their own Exchanges, and instead have the federal government version. The price changes were only calculated for the Silver plans, not the Bronze, Gold, and Platinum ones. Now, in all fairness, the Silver plans are the most popular, with a supposed 62% of Obamacare enrollees choosing them. Of course, since Other Taxpayers are not only ponying up to pay a huge chunk of the premium, it looks affordable.
Hey, did you know that those on Silver plans, and Silver plans only, also get “cost sharing” assistance for their deductibles? That was a new one on me. It was done intentionally to get people to go up to the higher plans. Isn’t that discriminatory?
(Forbes) A new analysis of the rates published by the Obama administration shows the “average lowest silver plan in states with a federal exchange increased by 13 percent from 2015 to 2016, compared to 3.2 percent from 2014 to 2015,†according to Avalere Health, a consulting and research firm tracking the health law. There are 38 states using the federal exchange and monthly premiums for silver plans are generally between $350 and $450, according to Avalere’s analysis here.
The idea of implementing measures that allow all citizens to have health insurance and keep it affordable is a good one: the implementation is the problem.

All these plans are is prepaid doctor visits. They usually don’t even cover serious illnesses and hospital stays to the extent that a catastrophic health insurance plan would.
These health plans become counter productive when the premiums exceed what you would pay out of pocket if you just went to see a doctor without insurance.
Prepaid Doctor visits are not insurance. We need to stop calling this insurance!!
I can’t wait until this country goes bankrupt so we can start over again…. Stupid ass people.
The net increase in private health insurance in 2014 was 260,000 people.
Some would call this a success.
I have patients coming is daily complaining about how there insurance is not paying for a thing. It is just about impossible to get a stress test. Then drugs have gone out the roof, steroid creams have increased about 10 times, this is directly attributed to Obamacare. I am under Medicare and it is just about shut down. Medicare will not pay from muscle relaxants as a 90 year old might be confused by the drugs. These are the only remedy to pain relief short of narcotics and their prices have increased beyond to ability to pay for most people. I might add that the people complaining the most about Obamacare and the effect on individual insurance are the Obama voters.
