Whistleblowers Claim NOAA Climate Report Was “Rushed To Publication”

Would the Cult of Climastrology actually do that?

From the link

House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Tex.) opened another front in his war with federal climate researchers on Wednesday, saying a groundbreaking global warming study was “rushed to publication” over the objections of numerous scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

That’s a rather misleading opening paragraph, an attempt to make this appear political

Whistleblowers have told the committee, according to Smith’s letter, that Thomas Karl — the director of NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, which led the study — “rushed” to publish the climate study “before all appropriate reviews of the underlying science and new methodologies” used in the climate data sets were conducted.

“NOAA employees raised concerns about the timing and integrity of the process but were ignored,” he wrote.

I hope these whistleblowers are hiding deep, because they will be in big trouble from the CoC when found, laws be damned. Some Warmists are already calling for the whistleblowers to be named and forced to testify publicly, in contradiction of federal law.

NOAA Communications Director Ciaran Clayton, one of the officials whose communications the committee has subpoenaed, said in an e-mail:

“The notion that this paper was rushed to publication is false. In December 2014, the co-authors of the study submitted their findings to Science — a leading scientific journal. Following a rigorous peer review process, which included two rounds of revisions to ensure the credibility of the data and methodologies used, Science informed the authors that the paper would be published in June.

“The notion that NOAA is ‘hiding something’ is also false. We have been transparent and cooperative with the House Science Committee to help them better understand the research and underlying methodologies. … We stand behind our scientists who conduct their work in an objective manner.”

Well, there’s a simple answer: comply with the House committees subpoenas, and release all the documents they have requested, including the internal communications and emails, which, last time I checked, are owned by The People as government records. Smith has threatened to subpoena Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker if the material is not released by Friday. Science is an open process. What is it with this Administration and stonewalling? If they aren’t releasing the requested material, they’re hiding something.

If there was nothing there, you can bet the communications and emails would have been released. At this point, we must ask what NOAA is hiding.

The executive branch does not have give in to every legislative branch demand.

Lamar Smith’s email and phone records are also owned by The People. Let’s have a look at his records, and those of his staff. Notes of meetings, recordings, emails. Without revealing the identity of the “whistleblower” supply all communications between him/her and the committee as it’s likely the committee was “trolling” for a whistleblower.

    He is right.

The executive branch does not have to give into every demand. They do have to give into demands under the FOIA and legal subpoenas. The reasons for denying requests or redacting requests are clearly laid out by law.

None of the requests by Smith’s committee come anywhere close to having a legal exemption.

If Jeffery wants to see Smith’s records, he can request them. No one is stopping him (except Jeffery who clearly doesn’t understand the law.)

But of course, Jeffery’s rant is a distraction and a bad one at that. While having said that “real scientists welcome debate and discussion,” Jeffery supports those same scientists holding onto information that is public property.

So much for “debate and discussion.”

Jeffery and people of his ilk are deathly afraid that they will be exposed for the frauds they are. So while they distract while cowering in the corner, the Obama administration is losing in court over similar FOIA requests time and time again. It is has also been discovered that the White House was illegally approving FOIA requests for other agencies.

Just more and more examples of this administration’s willingness to break the law and not be transparent as promised.

  3. LOL, seriously? The response above is exactly why the left should be denied access to power at all costs: they are willing to destroy individuals in pursuit of power, even to the point of ruining the lives of those who report problems. Note that if this was done, the left would simply move on without apology or restitution to the next cause, leaving behind them a trail of broken people in their pursuit of utopia.

Of course the above ignores the glaring point of the article: SCIENCE IS AN OPEN PROCESS AND HAS NOTHING TO HIDE. Why are these scientists hiding anything? What are they afraid of revealing? If AGW is true, then why secrecy?

Fess up, leftists. You are scared of your lies being revealed, and you are willing to burn all dissenters at the stake (figuratively for now).

  4. Jeffery says:

    Yawn.

All the raw data, transformed data, methods, analyses, reports etc are available. I’m certain the scientists are available for the inquisition as well. But the Denier caucus is not interested in any of that, they are after the personal emails of the scientists hoping to find one who called Smith a dickhead Denier or referred to the Republicans as cementheads.

Why won’t Smith supply all his internal records and documents?
    What is HE hiding?
Did he pay or arrange for his donors to pay the “whistleblower” to blow the whistle?

Smith should also reveal all his communications and financial dealings with his donors. We already know he is funded by the fossil-fuel industry – did they also urge him to attack NOAA?

  5. gitarcarver says:

    Yawn is right.

    Just another deflection from Jeffery.

    The emails are public record.

Smith’s emails and correspondence are subject to the same laws and disclosure as other government employees.

Once again, we see how Jeffery and liberals want to hide the truth and cannot stand the light of disclosure and transparency.

    Roaches are like that.

Don’t you understand? When the science is settled the best way to educate people to your point of view is to hide the data.

Libs used to support ‘whistleblowers’ against corrupt governmental practices.

    The data are not hidden.
