One explanation for Trump’s domination is that most Republicans are not hard-rightists like Cruz.
Maybe it’s time for the far-right to break off from the GOP and form a 3rd party.

So Republicans are in the process of nominating a Wall Street criticizing, Dubya impeaching, anti-Iraq invading, says there were no WMDs, lukewarmer on abortion, who likes some aspects of Planned Parenthood, populist who doesn’t like Mexicans or Muslims. He’s more progressive than Hillary, who supports Wall Street, and voted to authorize Dubya’s invasion!
You’d better hope that Trump wins, Jeffery,
If Cruz wins, he’ll eat Sanders and Hillary for lunch in a debate.
What makes you think Cruz would eat Sanders or Clinton? He’s not been very impressive in the GOP debates so far – 4th best in the last debate. Clinton will wear heels and poof up her hair and look inches taller than the little Joe McCarthy impersonator. Once he asks about emails and Benghazi!!, what’s he got? Flat tax? End Social Security? Repeal the ACA? Invading another Muslim country? His fundamentalist preacher schtick falls flat, taxing the patience of normal Americans.
He was for amnesty before he was against it. He believes that the invasion of Iraq was wrong, “knowing what we know now.” Senator Rubio and Trump have successfully painted him as a liar and a political cheat.
That said, Cruz will motivate the far-rightists in the party and will keep the regular GOP voters. But he will recruit few if any Reagan Democrats or independent voters.
And obviously Rafael will lose the birther vote, being less “American” than even Obama.
National demographics do not favor moderate GOP standard-bearers, much less an extremist. The GOPs best bet for national influence is their continued voter suppression efforts, and of course their obstructionism in the House and Senate.

Cruz has sucked in all his debates, at least that is the judgement of Republicans polled
