You didn’t think that the Human Rights Campaign would place the blame squarely on Islam’s hatred for the LGBT community, did you? Nor blame Democrats, being that Omar Mateen was a registered Democrat. Nor that he was possibly a gay. Nope, blame the guns
(Time) The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBT advocacy group, is veering from its normal set of priorities and on Friday announced that it would begin pushing for tighter controls on guns.
The shift, adopted late Thursday by the Human Rights Campaign boards of directors, comes in the wake of the largest mass shooting in the nation’s history. The shooting, which took place at an Orlando gay bar early Sunday morning, killed 49 people and injured another 53. It was a particularly galling attack, not just for its size, but also for its venue.
“Forty-nine members of our community were murdered on Sunday morning because of a toxic combination of two things: a deranged, unstable individual who had been conditioned to hate LGBTQ people, and easy access to military-style guns,†Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin said. “It is imperative that we address both issues in order to mitigate safety risk to our community.†(snip)
“As a society, we must hold accountable lawmakers, religious leaders and other public officials who put a target on the backs of LGBTQ people through hateful rhetoric and legislation, because they are complicit in the violence fueled by their words and actions,†Griffin said. “The safety of the LGBTQ community depends on our ability to end both the hatred toward our community and the epidemic of gun violence that has spiraled out of control.â€
Which religious leaders? Griffin doesn’t say, nor does the article at HRC mention, either. It doesn’t even imply or hint at that religion. Christianity may be against gay marriage and the gender confused in opposite sex bathrooms, there may be disapproval, but few are calling for jail and/or death like those in the Religion Of Peace, which has codified laws that call for jail, punishment, and or death for those who are LGBT. And that HRC article goes on to blame everything but Islam
HRC has observed alarming violence from coast to coast against the backdrop of more than 200 anti-LGBTQ bills that have been introduced in 34 states in 2016 alone. In the wake of last year’s marriage equality ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States, anti-LGBTQ activists have introduced a wide range of legislation targeting LGBTQ people. These bills have mainly fallen into three categories: bills targeting transgender adults and youth, including blocking their access to appropriate restrooms and other public facilities; bills creating broad “religious†loopholes enabling virtually any individual or organization to discriminate; and bills aimed overriding local LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections offered by municipal governments. The onslaught of these bills, combined with the dangerous rhetoric that lawmakers employ in soliciting support for them, has given license to the view that LGBTQ people are second class citizens deserving of not only discrimination, but harassment, intimidation, and violence.
They should try visiting Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen, Qatar, and many other Muslim nations, see how things go. I’m not actually recommending they do more than visit on the web, because they could be killed for being LGBT. This is mainstream Islam, not extremist Islam. Mainstream. But, hey, HRC is fine with blaming bathroom bills. They even mention the NY Times editorial that blamed the same, particularly Republicans and Conservatives.
Can’t be blaming Islam, you know. Because they will kill you if you say they aren’t peaceful. And, apparently, even the nation’s largest LGBT group is willing to place Islam on a level well above the their own people.
But, they can blame everyone else, and call for “common sense gun control”, as their joint resolution states
Resolved, the Human Rights Campaign and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation support common-sense gun safety reform within the United States, including limiting access to assault-style rifles, expanding background checks, and limiting the ability for suspected terrorists and those with a history of domestic abuse to access guns;
Resolved, that the Human Rights Campaign and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation will continue its primary focus of working for equality for LGBTQ people, and understand that given the reality of violence today, common-sense gun safety protections are vital to ensure LGBTQ people’s safety;
Resolved, that we stand with organizations and leaders who have committed a lifetime to this work, affirmatively supporting their efforts; and that we recognize our members and supporters, like many of their fellow Americans, are responsible gun owners, who, as survey after survey shows, also support sensible gun safety measures and restrictions on firearms without impacting the rights of responsible gun owners; and that we believe strongly in protecting the Constitutional rights of every American — believing we can protect those rights and innocent people from violence and recognizing that today, there are 49 fewer Americans who can access those rights.
They do realize they could end up disarming their own people, right? People who could lose the right to carry a weapon to protect themselves? Something that would have been helpful in Orlando.
Crossed at Right Wing News.
Disarming these people is a very good idea. No leftie should have any kind of weapon.
““As a society, we must hold accountable lawmakers, religious leaders and other public officials who put a target on the backs of LGBTQ people through hateful rhetoric and legislation…”
And yet they give Islam a pass…
Must be tough, will all those competing memes fighting it out in their heads…
Supporting Operation Blazing Sword (https://www.facebook.com/OperationBlazingSword/) would make more sense.
No the lgbt gave criticized ALL religious leaders who target and persecute people for their sexuality
They don’t give Islam a pass on that
But please tell us why YOU choose to make those Islamic countries our allies? Why do you shower them with American aid ?
Why would you advocate going to warcwithbthe obe country in the Mideast that had a secular government, Iraq
Liberal logic…

Teach for some reason you always fail to mention the many Christian countries in Aftica that have laws against the GHEY
Also up until 3 years ago the GOP party platform of the largest red state Texas had a platform that wanted to make sodomy a felony
Isn’t the Binlical penalty got the GHEY death?
As opposed to abortion which it seems to OK with if your sex slave gets knocked up by someone other than yourself ( see Trial by bitter waters)
