NY Times: Trump’s Firing Of James Comey Was All About Russia Russia Russia

By now you certainly know about President Trump firing FBI Director James Comey. Here’s the pink slip

https://twitter.com/spettypi/status/862061268714348544

You can see a more detailed rationale here, via Hot Air.

Of course, this has sent all the Democrats and media figures who wanted Comey fired last year to go Full Moonbat. Politico is wondering if this is a Constitutional crisis, a question not asked when President Bill Clinton fired his FBI director. And a crisis of American rule of law. And we’re getting stories about this being like Watergate and Nixonian. And all Russia Russia Russia. Here’s the freakout from the Editorial Board of the NY Times

Donald Trump’s Firing of James Comey

The American people — not to mention the credibility of the world’s oldest democracy — require a thorough, impartial investigation into the extent of Russia’s meddling with the 2016 presidential election on behalf of Donald Trump and, crucially, whether high-ranking members of Mr. Trump’s campaign colluded in that effort.

By firing the F.B.I. director, James Comey, late Tuesday afternoon, President Trump has cast grave doubt on the viability of any further investigation into what could be one of the biggest political scandals in the country’s history.

So far, when asked, no federally elected Democrat, whether in the House or Senate, can answer that they have any evidence that links the Trump campaign to Russia. They have their talking points when in front of their constituents, but, when actually on the record, they say “nope, none.”

The media, from the NY Times to Washington Post to the Big 3 networks to all the smaller outlets to overseas outlets have spent lots and lots of time on this whole Russia thing, and, you can bet, lots of time attempting to investigate and find the smoking gun. After all these months, there is no evidence. Innuendo from partisans, but no evidence.

Did Russia attempt to influence the election? Well, sure. Just like they attempted with France. Just like Obama just attempted with France. Just like Team Obama attempted with Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries. Just like Team Obama tried with Brexit. Just like the sitting U.S. president attempted to get Hillary elected. The U.S., for right or wrong, has meddled in plenty of countries and elections, just like Russia did. Had Hillary won, there would have been lots of talking points about Russia getting her elected. It was a win win for Putin and Russia, causing more turmoil between the Left and Right.

The explanation for this shocking move — that Mr. Comey’s bungling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server violated longstanding Justice Department policy and profoundly damaged public trust in the agency — is impossible to take at face value. Certainly Mr. Comey deserves all the criticism heaped upon him for his repeatedmissteps in that case, but just as certainly, that’s not the reason Mr. Trump fired him. (snip)

Mr. Comey was fired because he was leading an active investigation that could bring down a president. Though compromised by his own poor judgment, Mr. Comey’s agency has been pursuing ties between the Russian government and Mr. Trump and his associates, with potentially ruinous consequences for the administration.

Obviously, the NY Times EB have a psychic on staff now. If Comey had any information, Trump would have been worried that firing him would allow Comey to speak out, would he not? Comey would become a whistleblower. Mr. Trump has no concerns, because there is no evidence, no matter how much the partisan media folks at the NY Times want there to be. Does anyone not think that the big shots at the Times aren’t spending lots of time and money on attempting to find evidence? You know they were pushing hard before the election, and now, 7 months later, they still have exactly nothing.

Time to move on, Democrats. This rabbit hole is empty.

  1. Hank_M says:

    Fake news, all the time.

Dianne Feinstein said last week there’s no evidence of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.

Their real intent is to repeat this lie often enough that it becomes accepted as fact.

    • o0Nighthawk0o says:

I heard another interview with a democrat congress critter this morning. She was asked point blank if she had seen or heard of any evidence that links the Trump campaign to Russia and she said no. Of course, she then went on to say that we should just connect the dots and see that there was a connection. In other words, “there is no evidence but we hate Trump soooo much that we need to keep up with this BS”

  2. Stosh says:

But, but, Comey doomed, doomed I say the Clinton royal ascendancy (Killary said so herself)…I thought the Dems hated him?!?!?

  3. Jeffery says:

when President Bill Clinton fired his FBI director.

Wm S. Sessions was fired for being a crook.

Just before Bill Clinton was inaugurated as the 42nd President of the United States on January 20, 1993, allegations of ethical improprieties were made against Sessions. A report by outgoing Attorney General William P. Barr presented to the Justice Department that month by the Office of Professional Responsibility included criticisms that he had used an FBI plane to travel to visit his daughter on several occasions, and had a security system installed in his home at government expense.

Granted, in today’s DC, what Wm Sessions did was small potatoes compared to trump’s skimming, but still, he was dismissed for stealing from the government, not for investigating Clinton (whom as you may recall was investigated by Special Counsel Ken Starr for “assassinating” Vince Foster). trump may have been (may be) in cahoots with the Russians but that doesn’t deserve an investigation, LOL.

Mr. Comey was fired for investigating trump’s ties to the Russians, and trump wants to stop the investigation. It will be interesting to see what hack trump appoints. Christie? Donald Jr.? Eichmann? It will certainly be someone that trump can control, and someone who will derail any investigations of trump.

    Impeach trump

  4. Jeffery says:

Comey may have deep sixed the Democrats chances for the Presidency, but yet President Obama did not fire him. Comey is investigating the Russian involvement in the election (and any ties to trump) and trump fires him.

  5. Jeffery says:

Classic trumpy. Sally Yates made trumpy and his band of howling monkeys look like the lying chumps they are regarding suspected Russian spy and trumpy National Security Advisor (we kid you not!) Michael Flynn, so trumpy has to change the narrative. So he fires James Comey because of the way Comey treated Secretary Clinton. Seriously, that’s what they’re claiming! It would be funny if not so sad for the nation.

Regarding intelligence, trumpy makes George W look like Einstein; regarding ethics, he makes Bill Clinton look like Gandhi!

    • david7134 says:

      Jeff,
No, I would say that you are the one that lacks in intelligence. Yates defied an order from Trump, a lawful order, gone. Comey, his recommendations for separation came from the DOJ, the guy that the Dems thinks is great. Read the letter. Did Russia do something to our elections, likely. Did Trump have something to do with the Russian, HA, HA, HA, you will never know as that is impossible to prove. But why are the Dems so upset? Because they had spent billions to fix and election and their guy (really, she is a guy). So I would imagine that they did not get their moneys worth and are upset. Now, I don’t know how to tell you this, but Trump did not fire the FBI. That is still there, he only got rid of a nut at the top. Any legitimate investigation goes on. Is this like the Nixon firing of the special prosecutor? No, that guy was fired as he was conducting a political witch hunt. We have seen that Nixon was not guilty of any crime as Obama did worse and he has not been held accountable.

  6. david7134 says:

Oh, Jeff, what did the Russians do? Were they wrong in showing us how stupid and incompetent Hillary is? Maybe their methods were not right, but the end result was noble.

    • Zachriel says:

david7134: Were they wrong in showing us how stupid and incompetent Hillary is?

Turns out it is against U.S. law to hack into private computer systems, and it is a threat to U.S. sovereignty to use the hack in an attempt to manipulate the political process.

      • david7134 says:

        Z,
So, where is the evidence that a hack occurred sponsored by the Russians, with the approval or help of Trump. We have the wiki reports, but they have consistently said that they did not receive material from the Russians. The likely source of the material was the poor staffer killed by Hillary and bunch in DC. Now, any hack would not have altered the election. You see, people hate, hate Hillary and Obama has destroyed the Dems.

        • Zachriel says:

We have evidence of the following:

          • Russians hacked a major U.S. political party in order to interfere in the election in order to damage their presidential candidate, and to undermine confidence in the democratic process.

          • Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, worked with the Russian-allied Ukrainian president before his ouster. Manafort resigned after it was alleged he received large sums of off-the-books money.

          • the National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, lied about the nature of his contacts with the Russian government.

          • Attorney General Jeff Sessions was ‘less than fully truthful’ when testifying under oath about his contacts with the Russian government, such that he was forced to recuse himself from the investigation.

          • Trump called for the Russians to release hacked emails from Hillary Clinton.

          • Trump called for the imprisonment of his political opponent.

          • We know Russian money flowed into the Trump organization in years past.

          • We know from phone records that the Trump campaign had repeated contacts with the Russian government in the year before the election.

          • Trump has refused to release his tax returns, and that there are a large number of potential and actual conflicts of interest.

          • Trump has spoken glowingly of the autocratic head of Russian’s government while disparaging the leaders of democratic allies in Europe.

          • Trump had the Republican platform changed with regards to the Ukraine.

          • Trump called members of the press “enemies of the people” for accurately reporting on the above.

          • Comey was fired immediately after he requested additional funds for the Russia investigation. The claimed excuse was that Comey was unfair to Clinton.

While not sufficient to constitute proof of wrongdoing, it is certainly sufficient to justify a closer look.

Fun fact: There was only one presidential candidate under investigation by the FBI on election day. (Hint: It wasn’t Clinton.)

          • david7134 says:

            Z,
Why do you post stuff like this? You do realize that the people, except Jeff, who frequent this site are fairly intelligent and that they followed the election and events surrounding it in an intense manner. Most of your great list is either lying, obfuscation, or taken completely out of context. I gather that your little group are some kind of budding lawyers, but mostly children. Now, lawyers can certainly take the truth or something that is honest and turn it into trash, on the witness stand as a witness, I had a lawyer actually make it seem like a crime that I made an honest living. So, please, what did your little effort gain, nothing. Come back with truth.

Oh, Hillary and Obama were two of the most corrupt people ever to hold office, why don’t you give information about them? Trump is an honest upstanding guy and is working overtime to change the country back to something we can recognize after the destruction of Obama and group.

          • Zachriel says:

david7134: Most of your great list is either lying, obfuscation, or taken completely out of context.

Handwaving. The list shows a pattern, but let’s start with the first item on the list:

            • Russians hacked a major U.S. political party in order to interfere in the election in order to damage their presidential candidate, and to undermine confidence in the democratic process.

Joint Statement from the Department Of Homeland Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence on Election Security: The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations… These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process.

          • Zachriel says:

Um, Clapper wasn’t even aware of the FBI investigation before Trump assumed office, and hasn’t had access to evidence collected since Trump became president. Yates refused to say whether there was or was not evidence of collusion.

The suspicion concerns contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russians. The extent of those contacts, whether campaign officials were being used or actively colluding, and as to whether it directly included Trump can’t be determined without an investigation.

        • drowningpuppies says:

Thanks for the Dem talking points, kiddies.
          Again.

          • david7134 says:

            Z,
And how do you know what Clapper knew.
You might want to say that the statement came from Clapper, but he is as big of a list as Rice. You just dropped from my suspecion of being in college to high school. Though it is tough to tell now with the dismal academic world.

          • Zachriel says:

david7134: And how do you know what Clapper knew.

The claim concerned misrepresentations of Clapper’s statements.

There’s obviously no Trump-Russia ties or they would have been found by now after 6 months or so. As they always will be 15 yrs in the future

  8. Jeffery says:

    jl risibly typed:

There’s obviously no Trump-Russia ties or they would have been found by now after 6 months or so.

How long did the WhiteWater/Blowjob/Vince Foster investigation take? And that didn’t involve national security, Russian spies or foreign interference in a national election. How long did the investigations of Secretary Clinton’s email server run?

trump wants to stop the investigation because he’s terrified of what Flynn/Manafort/Page et al are telling investigators.

trump could answer a lot of the questions by revealing his tax returns.

  9. Jeffery says:

    jl,

The main similarity between the trump regime and global warming deniers is that both groups lie.

    • You understand that, based on Trump’s history, he’s most likely trolling you lefties and the lefties in the media, right? He was probably laughing his ass off behind closed doors at the hissy fits that would be thrown over this.

  12. o0Nighthawk0o says:

What ol’ jeffy seems to miss, or ignore, is that it was just a couple days ago that Comey again confirmed that Killary was sending classified info via unsecured email. He also confirmed that these emails went to Huma who, in turn, sent them to her pervert hubby. This is three high ranking officials that mishandled classified information and NONE of them were held accountable. Trump finally got tired of Comey protecting these idiots and fired him. But yeah, it was because RUSSIA! Which by the way, there is NO evidence of collusion which is constantly, reluctantly confirmed by the demonrats.

  13. Jeffery says:

So who’s lying? trump or Pence/Spicer/Huckabee-Sanders/Comey/Rosenstein/Conway? Mike Pence should walk in and punch the fat orange bastard in the mouth, then kick him in the balls.

    TEACH typed:

    most likely trolling

    If true, how presidential…

trump just admitted on national television that he improperly asked the Director of the FBI if he, trump was under investigation. Three times! Almost certainly, trump lied about what Comey replied.

In fact, the fake president trolls the American people and Congress daily. This odious POS is dragging the nation down with him.

Will Congress have the courage to toss this buffoon? If Congressional Republicans care about their party at all they will gut this carp before they lose the House in 2018.

  14. david7134 says:

    Jeff,
Again you lie, why? We can read Trumps letter, he never indicates that he asked Comey anything, he was told, big difference. I do enjoy seeing your hate eating away at you, I only wish I could see the tears as Trump continues to improve our lives when your progressive nonsense has done so much damage.

  15. Jeffery says:

    dave,

    Here’s what I had written:

trump just admitted on national television that he improperly asked the Director of the FBI if he, trump was under investigation.

In an interview today with Lester Holt trumpy stated clearly that he asked Mr. Comey if he, trump was under investigation. It has been on all the TV stations. Where was the lie?

    http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-reveals-he-asked-comey-whether-he-was-under-investigation-n757821

“I actually asked him” if I were under investigation, Trump said, noting that he spoke with Comey once over dinner and twice by phone.
“I said, if it’s possible would you let me know, ‘Am I under investigation?’

    Apology accepted.

    • drowningpuppies says:

You implied that it was improper to ask, little dumbass.
      #Army.1971.You?

  16. Jeffery says:

    dave,

trumpy volunteered that he asked Director Comey if he, trumpy, was under investigation.

How is quoting that a lie?

trump: “Am I under investigation?” That’s pretty clear. Even the dumbest commenter here can understand that.

trumpski also made it clear that he will throw his campaign under the bus just as he has the hapless VP Mike Pence. When the investigations find collusion between Manafort, Page, Sessions, Flynn et al, trumpski will distance himself from them.

trumpski could answer all the questions with the simple release of his tax returns outlining his financial ties to Russians.

  17. david7134 says:

    Jeff,
Sum it up to say you are wrong and proving not to be very bright.

  18. Jeffery says:

    dave,

trumpski asked Director Comey if he was under investigation. Period. So you are proven to be a liar.

(Michael Flynn holds trumpski’s tiny balls in his hands – and trumpski’s biggest fear is that Flynn will strike an immunity deal and spill his guts).

  19. Jeffery says:

So whom do you trust? TV game show host and proven crook trump or former FBI Director James Comey? That’s rhetorical, lol.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/11/us/politics/trump-comey-firing.html?_r=0

The president has a yuuge credibility problem and his solution is more lying and even greater strongman tactics. What is he covering up?

Since political hack Jefferson Beauregard Sessions “recused” himself from the Russia investigation, careerist and Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein is in the hot seat. trump’s worry is that Rosenstein is an honest man (hint: trump wants a patsy).

Already the acting FBI director, Andrew McCabe is skating on thin ice for testifying under oath and refuting every statement made by the White House shills (and trump). trump’s worry is that McCabe is an honest man (hint: trump wants a patsy).

Two men, Rosenstein and McCabe, are in trump’s head. If they are honest and steadfast, trump is in trouble.

    • david7134 says:

      Jeff,
I finally saw the segment you are going on about. Very, very smart move on Trumps part, and you can’t see it. What he did was to say, am I being investigated, response no, good you are fired. Now Comeycould be lying, he does do that, but it doesn’t matter, Trump got him on record.

      • Jeffery says:

        dave,

So you admit you were making incorrect statements. Thank you. As I stated, and you denied, trump admitted that he asked Director Comey if he was under investigation.

After trump freely admitted his request, he then CLAIMED Director Comey said “no” (almost certainly a lie). Now trump hints he has recordings of Director Comey answering no ( also almost certainly a lie). So how does trump have anything “on the record”? The only one “on the record” is the trump, who admitted asking Comey about the investigation.

No one believes a word out of trump’s mouth.

dave, we get it. You want a strongman to smite thine enemies and trump may well do that. But in the process of smiting liberals, Mexicans, Blacks, Muslims, Dems and gays he may well destroy the nation (which I surmise is OK with a neo-confederate white supremacist such as you who believe you can rebuild a white christian America out of the rubble). Having an impetuous, criminal dumbass as president is OK by you as long as he assaults your enemies.

        • david7134 says:

          Jeff,
Most of what you say is wrong, so again, why do you lie?

Now, you were perfectly fine with Obama destroying the nation, when Trump is bring it back and getting rid of folks like you, fine. By the way, has Trump shut down your income stream from the NIH?

You’re pained that we point at that the underpinnings of your most cherished beliefs are not supported by evidence.
