we had NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch schooling an emotional sheriff
(Daily Caller) NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch lit up Broward County (Fla.) Sheriff Scott Israel Wednesday for apparently missing the school shooter’s litany of red flags.
Sheriff Israel said that there is a possibility his office made a “mistake†in its evaluation of the school shooter who killed 17 people, but argued that law enforcement around the country needs more power to be able to involuntarily treat people who are mentally ill.
“In Florida, we call it a Baker Act. It allows us to take an individual to be, against their will, involuntarily, to go to a mental health facility and be treated,†Israel explained.
Loesch questioned how the shooter apparently did not meet that standard.
“Thirty-nine visits not meet that standard? 39 visits, assaulting students, assaulting parents, taking bullets and knives to school did not meet that standard?†she questioned.
That went on for a bit more, and Israel wasn’t amused, and tried to make it about Loesch, but, hey, perhaps the sheriff could have paid attention to this
(CNN) Just months before Nikolas Cruz killed 17 at his former high school in South Florida, the host family who had taken him in immediately after his mother’s death warned local law enforcement that the 19-year-old had “used a gun against people before” and “has put the gun to others’ heads in the past,” according to records obtained by CNN.
It’s the latest indication of how law enforcement encountered warning signs about Cruz’s violent behavior before he attacked students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine’s Day.
CNN was able to obtain records of many of the times that law enforcement was called to the home, which includes
Rock interrupted Cruz and a fight broke out between them, according to the documents. Cruz left the home, and Rocxanne Deschamps called 911. She warned the police dispatcher that Cruz said “he was going to get his gun and come back,” records show. She said Cruz had “bought a gun from Dick’s last week and is now going to pick it up.”
Rocxanne Deschamps told the dispatcher that Cruz had “bought tons of ammo” and “has used a gun against ppl before,” the notes said. “He has put the gun to others heads in the past.”
Exactly how are “enhanced” background checks going to work when the current background checks do not? When people are not placed on the naughty list? When law enforcement fails to act on reports that current gun owners are using them to threaten people? This is not an Old West movie: if you’re simply whipping your gun(s) out to intimidate and/or threaten people who are not a significant danger to you, then you aren’t being responsible, and should be put in timeout, with your guns confiscated for a time period.
Passing more laws when Government is not implementing fully current law is a folly.
Oh, my.
Someone is missing.
They suspend and expel kids who draw pictures of guns, bite guns out of pop tarts, but think this fellow was just fine. Yea, more laws would stop this.
So much for having Armed Guards at schools. The one at Parkland stood and watched. That fact kind of annihilates the NRA/GOP narrative about gun free zones.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is for the good guys to keep the bad guy from getting an AR-15 designed specifically for rapidly mowing down dozens of humans. Sellers and manufacturers report that sales are through the roof since Parkland, with younger people buying. Great! More 19 yr old right-wing crazies with guns!
Now our orange Pander Bear in Chief wants to arm teachers.
