…is a world turning to sand from Other People’s use of fossil fuels, you might just be a Warmist
The blog of the day is The Last Tradition, with a post on Iran threatening to expose those who took bribes to pass Iran deal.
It’s motorcycles week, as recommended by Jonathan Smith.
I saw that story elsewhere, making the rounds through the internets. Like many others, I relish the thought of bad guys being dragged out into the light. But I also recognize that it never has the effect we are hoping for. Aside from the fact that it demands we trust the Iranians to tell the truth, it just won’t matter.
The obvious implication is that the Clinton/Obama/Kerry team took bribes, as well as foreign governments. Those who already don’t like those people already believe they were guilty of corruption. This story would only reinforce what they already believe. Those people who are supporters of the C/O/K team will either not believe it, or not care, but they will continue to vote C/O/K and support everything that team claims to stand for. BTW, it doesn’t take a huge stretch of the imagination to guess which people “took bribes” from the Iranians. Since one group was obviously making it easier for Iran to pay bribes (by giving them cargo planes full of cash) and one group was obviously trying to choke off Iran’s ability to do anything with cash.
We saw this all before when the Russians, French and UN officials were taking huge bribes under the oil for food program to look the other way while Saddam spent money on embargoed arms instead of food. And the US media played along with sob stories about starving Iraqi babies because of the Evil Bush Family. (Oil for food program was executed under the Clinton administration). The left in America ignored the story and believed the votes of France and Russia in the UN were principled resistance to American over-reach.
But the point is not to rehash old trash. The point is: people will believe what they already want to believe. Nothing will change about the way people think about the side they are on and the side they oppose.
