CNN: We’re Losing The War On Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

This comes from the mind of John D. Sutter, who seems to take lots of long fossil fueled trips

We’re losing the war on climate change

For years now, people like environmentalist and journalist Bill McKibben have been screaming from the treetops that we need a World War II-scale mobilization to fight the scourge of climate change.

They’re right, of course. And on Earth Day — that 24-hour sliver of the calendar when we talk about the fact that humans exist on, and because of, a living planet — it’s clear not only that we are losing this war but that we still are failing to recognize it’s taking place at all.

I mean, yes, I’ve met Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teen who is “schooling world leaders” on climate policy and who started a global school walkout movement. I’ve read the Green New Deal and seen the videos of young people demanding that US reps adopt it. Just this month, protesters in London shut down parts of the city in their calls for a reckoning. It’s true that clean energy sources keep getting cheaper. Electric cars are more popular than ever.

If he’s met Greta, it means he took a fossil fueled airplane trip to Europe

But the scale of the outrage in no way matches the magnitude of this disaster, which, like WWII, threatens to cripple or even obliterate human life on the planet as we know it.

We’ve known the truth about climate change — that people are burning fossil fuels and warming the atmosphere, with potentially catastrophic consequences — for decades now. James Hansen testified about the dangers of global warming when he was an NASA scientist in 1988. The New York Times headline: “Global Warming Has Begun, Expert Tells Senate.”

Like flying to Europe? How about the fossil fuels used by CNN? Heck, CNN has all sorts of advertisements and articles on traveling to places using fossil fuels.

Since then, the eco-woke among us have created more than enough deadlines to try to force change. In 1990, as George Marshall wrote in his book “Don’t Even Think About It,” the magazine Ecologist published a book called “5,000 Days to Save the Planet.” About 5,000 days later, the Institute for Public Policy Research declared that there were “Ten Years to Save the Planet.” In 2008, he wrote, the New Economics Foundation said it was “100 Months to Save the World.”

As a journalist who’s been covering climate for years, I’ve been part of that deadline trend. In the leadup to the Paris climate talks in 2015, I wrote that there were “100 days to save the world.”

The deadlines aren’t the problem. It’s our failure to heed them.

See? It’s not that the deadlines keep failing…..no, wait, that is the problem. The stupid continues in the article, you’re welcome to read it.

    What war?

~97% of greenhouse gasses come from natural sources and there is nothing we can do about it.
Scientists have calculated that termites alone produce ten times as much carbon dioxide as all the fossil fuels burned in the whole world in a year.
Besides Greenhouse gases, CO2 in particular, are but a fart in the wind of global warming when compared to the variation in energy imparted by the sun due to solar cycles.

    So again, what war? https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

      Sock it to ‘im, Liljeffy.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        Lil is a liar.

Much of what Cons believe is untrue.

All of what non-warmists think they understand about global warming is false.

Why have termites started emitting so much CO2 in the past century? How do you explain that the CO2 source for the increase is fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas), not wood?

    • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

But the scale of the outrage in no way matches the magnitude of this disaster…

      Huh?

–World Bank and United Nations data show extreme poverty and global hunger has noticeably dropped since 1970.
–And according to the International Energy Agency, the number of people without access to electricity fell to below 1 billion people for the first time.
–Environmental trends have improved significantly in the United States. Pollutants known to cause harm to public health and the environment are declining. According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s latest air quality trends report, the combined emissions of the six common air pollutants have decreased 73 percent between 1970 and 2017.

      So again, what disaster?

“We know the truth about climate change..” No, you don’t

Speaking to the crowd for a second day she said: “Sometimes I have to fly, but I don’t fly as much as I used to. Where is the hypocrisy?”

Yeah, What she said you enviro-nazis! I don’t fly as much as I use to either, I’m on team Emma!

    Resist We Much!

  4. Hoss says:

I’d be somewhat inclined to listen to the global warming prophets if any of them spent a second in their personal lives acting like it was a severe problem.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      Hoss,

It’s an interesting point I’ve heard many Cons make. Science does not drive your position, you let the actions of others dictate your scientific positions. That’s interesting, don’t you think?

That’s what I’m inclined to think about conservatives. When they start cutting back on their reliance on gov’t programs and get serious about the burgeoning debt I’d be inclined to listen to them. Until then it’s clear they’re just blowing smoke out their…

      • Kye says:

Sadly Elwood you miss the point as usual. What is interesting is that the “science” you claim drives your position is not driving your actions, politics is. You ignore the science and go on abusing and polluting while complaining. I think that is interesting. You guys frame a scientific problem in a political way and when people who actually want to talk about the science call foul you reply they are “deniers” ending the conversation. That protects you from ACTUALLY having to ACT like you believe your own shit.

You do the same thing with illegal aliens. All the shot shit leftist have sanctuary cities and states bu when Trump says Okay, then I’ll ship a couple hundred thousand illegals there suddenly he’s the bad guy for “using” illegals for politics. Sending these people to the places that said they WANTED THEM is now “politics”. IOW, they are lying hypocrites.

BTW, if someone is poor and conservative and needs a government program that’s what they are there for. There is no sin in being poor even for a conservative Elwood. It’s the millions of people including aliens gaming the system we object to. As far as the debt goes exactly what do you expect us to do when Congress does nothing? it’s as much your fault as ours. We can’t do it alone especially with you guys stopping us at every turn.

      • formwiz says:

Science doesn’t drive your position, either.

but it’s really quite damning how many of these environuts are always zipping off to international conferences on fossil-fueled vehicles, living in homes powered by fossil fuels.

you let the actions of others dictate your scientific positions.

Your Freudian slip is showing yet again.

When they start cutting back on their reliance on gov’t programs and get serious about the burgeoning debt I’d be inclined to listen to them.

No, you’ll accuse them of hating poor people, of being racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, and anything else your trollmassas tell you to call us.

The last thing you want is elimination of the debt. Your one last hope is economic collapse and the debt is the only way to get it. When Trump is re-elected, I think he’s gonna put the hammer down.

One thing keeps going through my head as I consider all this. A line from Sun Tzu, The God Emperor of the Cherry Blossom Throne’s spirit guide, “Kill one, impress a thousand”.

I wonder who it will be because it will send a scare through the Left it will take a century to overcome.

      • Dana says:

The problem, Mr Dowd, is that the global warming climate change doomsayers don’t act as though they take their own warning seriously. When they keep saying that we must change, change, change, that we must sacrifice to Save Teh Planet, but we don’t see change or sacrifice on their part, it makes all of their warnings seem fraudulent.

When the warmunists tell me that I must cut back and sacrifice, don’t you think that I might be more inclined to take their statements seriously if I saw them doing the same thing?

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The problem, Mr Nano, is that you and the others are lying. It’s pure bullshit. Millions of Americans drive small cars, or no cars, live in small houses, and keep their fossil fuel use at a minimum. So no, regardless of what others do, you and yours will continue to oppose the reality of global warming. Why do you lie about it? It gives you an excuse to disparage others while claiming your imaginary high ground.

          • Kye says:

Elwood. So predictable. Now we’re lying. That didn’t take long. As soon as you guys start to lose. “Millions” of Americans drive small or no cars, live in small houses and keep their fossil fuel use at a minimum? That’s just plain silly.

The “average” new house in America has INCREASED more than 1,000 SF from an average size of 1,660 sf in 1973 to 2,687 sf in 2016. (American Enterprise Inst./Census Bureau). More Ford F150’s are sold every year than all the electric cars combined. Maybe people who live in crammed cities run by leftist Democrats drive small or no cars and pay crazy prices for efficiency apartments but that’s only cities. And as soon as they “make it” they move to the burbs to avoid the human waste and drugs the Democrats import with their policies, buy large homes and luxury cars. It’s called “The American Dream” which is why you leftists hate it so much. You hate anything labeled “American”. Even songs.

So, regardless of the fact we brought your stinking hypocrisy to your attention (once again) you and yours will continue to oppose the reality that we do see global warming but not as a man made threat. Why do you lie about it? It gives you an excuse to look down on others while claiming your imaginary virtue.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

            Wiz/Kye,

An accusation of hypocrisy is a common debate tactic (and an Alinsky rule) for non-warmists to distract from the actual argument and ridicule non-deniers.

“You drive to work, therefore global warming is a hoax!”
“You only drive a hybrid, not an electric, therefore global warming is a hoax!”
“Your house is 1400 sq ft, not 800 sq ft, therefore global warming is a hoax!”
“You ate a steak, therefore global warming is a hoax!”
“You flew to DC, therefore global warming is a hoax!”

            etc etc

The Earth is warming from the CO2 that you, me and Al Gore add to atmosphere. It’s going to get worse.
