Washington Post Wants Democrats To Stop Embracing Losing Issues To Beat Trump

Poor Richard Cohen. This dude infused with Trump Derangement Syndrome has finally realized that what the Democrats are running on doesn’t actually help in the focus on defeating Trump. And actually helps Trump win

Democrats, stop embracing losing issues and focus on getting rid of Trump

The bevy of Democrats running for president seems determined to test my silent vow never to vote Republican, especially for President Trump. The truth is that I cannot imagine that happening, but I can imagine entering the voting booth with about a colonoscopy level of enthusiasm. Please, can we get this over with?

At the moment, the party is squabbling over what is called forced busing to achieve school desegregation. It seems the party has forgotten that, with the possible exception of the Civil War draft, no program has been more hated by working-class Democrats — more whites than blacks, but plenty of blacks as well. In large U.S. cities, busing was seen as an effort by liberals to send white kids to schools they would not, for a moment, send their own kids to. In Boston, the spiritual home of the antibusing movement in the 1960s, the populace had not been as furious since King George III bivouacked his unwashed redcoats in the tidy homes of American patriots.

Yeah, that’s pretty much an issue that almost no one cares about, being 2019.

But the Democratic Party is on a tear. One by one, its candidates have embraced losing issue after losing issue. First came reparations for slavery, a noble idea lacking only popular support and practicality and possibly amounting to yet another attempt to right a wrong with money. Before that, the various candidates raised their hands in support of Medicare-for-all, which could strip millions of people of their private insurance plans. That is sure to be characterized by Trump as socialized medicine with the sick growing old and dying, covered in cobwebs while waiting to see the doctor. GOP strategists must be hyperventilating over all the goodies arrayed before them. This is a campaign even Trump could win.

The Democratic Party has a possibly fatal inability to prioritize. The urgent challenge is to rid the nation of Trump, not to mollify this or that identity group or wrestle over issues that could not be solved when they were relevant — such as busing. As it is, the candidates are campaigning in an America of their own imagination — a bit to the left of Sweden and as racially unified as one of those old Coke commercials. They pander to the extremes of the early caucus and primary states, thinking they can seduce the middle later on down the road or, in my case, giving me a choice of one of them or Trump. Sedate me first.

Cohen is not wrong. What Democrats are campaigning on panders to a small subset of America, the one that tends to be urban based and unhinged. This hyper-leftism might even drive average Democrats away. They probably won’t vote Trump, but, they won’t be voting Democrat. It won’t play well in swing states. And while many things might poll well in theory, in practice, not so much.

Of course, here’s the problem for Cohen: he offers no ideas for Democrats to defeat Trump. But, then, to do that would require that Democrats give up a goodly chunk of their beliefs set. They’d have to start loving America again, stop hating on the military, stop trying to control every citizen’s life at the federal level, stop trying to essentially control everything.

Another Democratic party strategist (Washington Post) recommends the same old tactic used every time: Lie about who you are and what you will do if elected.

  2. Doom and Gloom says:

In 2020 there are a couple huge losing issues for the GOP and Trump in particular that they have not addressed. One is Health Care. It is still a horrid mess and they have done ZERO about it. Second is the hatred women have for Trump. In fact the GOP only has something like 13 women in congress. (Healthcare is the number 1 or 2 issue for WOMEN nationwide.)

So even though I support Trump I am a realist. This nation is being brainwashed non stop daily by the MSM, lied to by every internet social media site. Shut down by social media, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. Fox empire has been bought by ABC leaving only fox news as a spin off and even that outlet is now more liberal than ever.

So I wonder who is more delusional right now since Trump won’t be running against HRC this time around.

At least, Jeffery is now portraying himself in a more truthful light.

As for medical care (healthcare is ordering you what you must do), nobody wants another Zippy Care, so he’s full of it on that one.

Second is the hatred women have for Trump. In fact the GOP only has something like 13 women in congress. (Healthcare is the number 1 or 2 issue for WOMEN nationwide.)

It is? Care to (ahem) prove it?

And just because the Rs have better sense than to tokenize women they way they do blacks, Hispanics, etc., is not a Trump issue. Could just be R women have more important things to do, like caring for home and family.

Also, I doubt a lot of women “hate” Donald Trump. Some may dislike the way he works, but hate sounds like something Jeffery would use to color an argument. There’s a book coming out that may change that. All about Christine Floozy Ford and how she just might not be the innocent she claimed (Anita Hill rides again). A lot of women (of all colors and ethnic groups) saw the attempted lynching of Brother Bret as something that could happen to their husbands, boyfriends, sons, brothers, and even fathers and they didn’t like it.

That makes them a lot more willing to vote against the Demos than for them.

Oh, come on, Jeffery. We all know it’s you.

You’re about as subtle as an Acme anvil.

So I wonder who is more delusional right now since Trump won’t be running against HRC this time around.

The same people who were delusional last time.

I agree. It’s Jeff… again. The old “heck, guys, I’m just a hick like you” routine gives it away, then goes on to list things that are important to democrats and the talking points they use to shape those issues. Zero original thought.

Done Zero about health care? Ending the personal mandate is not Zero. You may not agree with it or like it, but it isn’t “zero”.

Trump is popular because he isn’t a career politician. His original message of ending the open borders policy that both parties have supported is what makes him the winner. The hatred by women thing is how democrats see the world. Democrat women hate Trump because they wanted Hillary. Republican women love Trump. The only thing that hurts Trump is not following through on Trump’s electoral agenda. Wasting any time at all helping the Democrat party policy agenda would also hurt him.

        Sibley,

You and “Perfesser” are wrong, once again. But what’s new?

        • formwiz says:

No, we’re right. That’s why you keep coming back here.

You hate Trump and you want to bring him down and you hate us because we support him and America and we’re why you’re hokey Leftist ideas will never fly in this country.

You had your best shot with Zippy and people couldn’t wait to be rid of him and his plans.

Speaking of which, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is hearing oral arguments about the constitutionality of Obamacare, there are rumblings that the law could be struck down—all of it.

So, one of your pre-digested talking points about how Trump has done nothing is going up in smoke.

In the immortal words of Ed Norton, “Rx”.

  3. Doom and Gloom says:

Well I am not sure who Jeff is but okay if you want to believe that is me then I will continue to point to facts.

Polls. The economy, health care and immigration top the public’s list of most important issues in the 2020 election, each cited by about eight in 10 Americans. Foreign policy, gun violence, issues of special interest to women and taxes make up the next tier, each called a top issue by about seven in 10. Abortion (highly important to 61%) and global warming (54%) follow. ABC NEWS POLL.

Trump’s lowest approval ratings were among women at 29 percent, with college-educated women giving him a slightly lower rating at 26 percent. Marist Poll taken during the Government shutdown with 53 percent of Americans blaming Trump and is the key reason why He relented and went with the emergency declaration.

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has recovered since the partial government shutdown among women, especially among suburban women key to his re-election, according to a new Zogby poll.

Overall, the president’s job approval rating has returned to its previous level of 44 percent approve/53 percent disapprove, according to the poll. It had dropped polls following the partial government shutdown.

In what Zogby called “a stunning reversal of sorts,” Trump’s numbers were down among men, but up with women after he agreed to end the shutdown and vowed to get more funding for a wall along the southern border to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

The cost of healthcare is the top financial problem facing Americans, according to a new Gallup poll.

Asked to name the most important financial problem confronting their own family, Americans responded like this:

    17% said healthcare costs.
11% said lack of money/low wages.
    8% said college expenses.
    8% said cost of owning/renting a home.
    8% said taxes.
6% said too much debt/not enough money to pay debts.
6% said the high cost of living/inflation.
    5% said retirement savings.
20% said they do not have a “most important financial problem.”

This was taken in MAY of 2019. Now the point remains here is that while Many claim Trump can blame the Democrats. The facts are that the GOP had a majority in all three houses and they could not do anything to solve the Obamacare crap thrust on us. So who is to blame? The Buck stops with the president always and its going to be hard to make Americans realize that healthcare is Obama and the democrats fault not the GOP who when tasked with solving it had no solutions.

    • formwiz says:

Polls. They were sure the Beast would win.

They were taken by landline because the phone books gave pollsters a shot at a random sample (if they wanted one) and how many people still have a landline?

If you’re talking Zogby, he’s one of the most biased because anybody who kills Moslem crazies is on his drop dead list. Yours, too, of course.

The facts are that the GOP had a majority in all three houses and they could not do anything to solve the Obamacare crap thrust on us. So who is to blame?

Gee whiz, how about that creep who always wanted some attention, St John of Hanoi?

Have no fear, it’s being gutted all the time.

The Buck stops with the president always and its going to be hard to make Americans realize that healthcare is Obama and the democrats fault not the GOP who when tasked with solving it had no solutions.

No, they still know and, no, thery do not want another “solution”.

Well I am not sure who Jeff is but okay if you want to believe that is me then I will continue to point to facts.

The way you express things is so obvious it’s how everybody could tell you were wearing the bear suit.

And polls are hardly facts. Show us some links. Let us look at the crosstabs and the way the questions were asked.

      Ya feel lucky, punk?

Im a punk and I’ve posted here 2-3 times?

Just remember one thing. Everyone was convinced the mid term polls were all wrong and the GOP lost what? 30-40 seats after the polls were predicting about 30-35 seat loses in the house. Those same polls said the GOP would pick up 2-3 seats in the senate and they did.

Even Fox news has said they have changed the way they are polling to be more accurate. As I said I am not sure who is more delusional. The right and Trump or the left and whomever they think can beat Trump after the bitch slap each other for 8 months.

You have always been the 20-30,000 times you commented here. Teach is the only one that posts.

When 40 Whig Congressmen said they weren’t running for re-election, mostly to spite Trump, everybody knew it would be a rough go. What people didn’t see coming was this “vote harvesting” fraud in CA.

Now that we’ve seen this crowd in Congress, I think getting those seats back is going to be very doable.

As for the Senate, no President since Roosevelt has picked up seats midterm until Trump.

So you’re lying. It’s what you always do. 20,000 comments worth.

Even Fox news has said they have changed the way they are polling to be more accurate.

That wouldn’t be hard, they were a joke. I have a feeling the Murdoch brothers
