Wurst Idea Ever? Germany to Tax Sausages to Fight Climate Change
German legislators have proposed raising the sales tax on meat from seven percent to 19 percent to fight climate change and improve animal welfare.
Research has shown that greenhouse gas emissions from livestock account for a higher percentage of total global emissions than the world’s 1.2 billion automobiles, a fact underscored by some German Greens who are pushing for higher meat taxes,
A United Nations report from 2012 found that the earth’s cattle population generates more carbon dioxide than automobiles, planes, and all other forms of transport combined. Moreover, the cow pies they deposit and the wind they break produce a third of the world’s methane emissions, considered 20 times more detrimental to the environment. (snip)
The idea of raising meat taxes would be to reduce livestock numbers — as well as their gaseous output — by discouraging people from eating meat.
Last June, Germany’s Green party vowed to ban industrial farming to reduce global warming if it ever were to come to power.
The measure was proposed by Katrin Goering-Eckardt, the party’s leader in the Germany parliament, as part of a massive €100 billion project to finance climate initiatives.
Or, they could just mind their own business and leave people alone. Because you don’t hear about these same elected representatives giving up their meat consumption, do you? And it is interesting that they love going to taxes, taking more money out of people’s pockets, eh?
Have you noticed wherever these communists disguised as climate saviors they can never seem to promote a tax JUST for climate change. They always have to add something else belying their true intent. In this case it’s taxing everybody to “fight climate change and IMPROVE ANIMAL WELFARE”. They can never tell the truth.

Guffaws! Politicians and other busybodies, minding their own business and leaving people alone?
Where’s that gif of laughing and rolling on the floor when we need it?
I don’t mind it when people are vegetarians or vegans; those are their personal choices, and none of my business. But apparently they don’t feel the same way about People Eating Tasty Animals. They want to control our choices, for our own good, don’t you know, because they are just better and smarter than us, and should be running our lives for us.
That is the essence of political liberalism today: us plebeians do not really need our individual freedoms, and we’ll just be so much happier if they take our decisions for us.
There are actually a couple of issues here, so let’s break them down.
Factory Farms where chickens are raised are concentration camps; and we should get rid of them as soon as possible. But I doubt the German government will use tax money to close those camps. Kentucky Fried Chicken would be very unhappy.
Meat substitutes are actually much more advanced than most people realize. So it’s important for the public to know if these yeast or algae based foods are patented. Promoting veganism simply to benefit a few large patent-holders is not the solution.
There is no warming crisis. CO2 is a red herring; that is to say, it’s a fake issue designed to draw attention away from the real issue: human overpopulation. It’s not Germany’s fault that the population growth in China and India is out of control. Germany should not have to pay the price. Female bureaucrats hate any discussion of population control. They feel that all woman should be allowed to have as many children as they want. Ten babies? No problem. After all, Germany will pay for it.
So if the German government wants to improve animal welfare, it can close the chicken farms.
And if it wants to fight climate change, it can place import restrictions on countries who are violating the terms of the U.N. Population Fund. (Which, for some reason, doesn’t mention population control.) And since the U.N. has proven itself to be totally incapable of dealing with the problem of overpopulation, Germany should secede from the United Nations. But if they do that, then 10,000 U.N. ladies won’t be able to meet for coffee anymore. What a shame.
