After all someone has to pay for all those things everyone relies on – roads, schools, clean water, police, Social Security, Medicare, military expansion, firefighters, the courts, economic stimulus (trillions!), Trump golf trips, FDA, CDC, Don Jr hunting trips, DHS, ICE…
Those receiving unearned income aren’t bothered by those dreary payroll taxes and also get to tell the IRS how much they make. Working stiffs who get paychecks, i.e., clerks, mechanics, teachers, 7-11 managers, line workers, etc get taxes taken out of their paychecks!!

I imagine that all those leftist billionaires do exactly what we do including Elwood and that is to use every available exemption they can to lower their tax requirements. When we do it it’s called an “exemption” but if Trump does it or all those crazy wealthy leftists it’s called a “loophole”.
I have no qualms with exemptions as long as they are applied equally. I do have doubts that these giant benefits to those interlocking corporate CEO’s and such are in any way fair. Things like “deferred” income in the form of stocks. Yes, in theory they are available to all of us….if we somehow become Mark Zuckerberg rich. But let’s be real, they were given by coconspirator politicians to their bosses in business. They are the product of how lobbyists make themselves useful.
The best and I believe the only way to reduce “income inequality” short of putting a cap on income is taxing wealth not income. Billionaires are billionaires because of what they own not how much they earn. Joe Biden says he wants to tax away the money “earned” by “the rich” which he defines as those of us earning $400,000 a year. I’ve done that quite a few times and I’m not The Rich. By the time I paid my taxes, my home expenses, my tithing’s, etc. I was usually left with 50 or 60 grant in savings.
I’m also concerned as to how politicians enter the field usually having earned pretty much an average income and retire multi millionaires (some into the 100’s of millions) earning about $150 grand a year. Wish I could do that. They are some people (ahem, Clintons, Obamas) that need a drastic reduction of their wealth including the beach front property while preaching glow ball warming.
