Climate Cult Continues Pushing Notion That Bad Winter Weather Is Your Fault

Ten plus years ago the climate cult was telling us that ‘climate change’ would mean the end of snow and that we’d all be experiencing mild winters. Now, since that prognostication has, as with all their prognostications, failed to materialize (of course, they’ll say this will all happen In The Future), they’re scrambling for reasons to continue perpetuating their cultish beliefs. Hence, the notion that snow, ice, and big cold spells are because you ate a cheeseburger with a carbon pollution infused beer. This piece is by John Schwartz at the NY Times, reprinted at Raleigh news WRAL

Climate Change May Be Why Frigid Weather Has Slid So Far South, Experts Say

The notion that the global phenomenon of a hotter planet could be sending a shocking cold wave into the southern United States might seem nonsensical. And every cold snap can be counted on to elicit quips and stunts from those who deny the science of climate change.

Yeah, it is nonsensical. Weather happens. And it isn’t because of you taking a fossil fueled trip to go skiing.

But the weather patterns that send freezing air from the polar vortex plunging all the way to the Gulf Coast could, like other forms of extreme weather, be linked to global warming — which is why climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe prefers the phrase “global weirding.”

Hayhoe, who yammers on about wanting to have discussions with Skeptics while refusing to have discussions and blocking them on social media, while also saying she’s doing this for her religion, is probably not the best to listen to.

Winter storms are influenced by many factors, including the natural variability that affects all weather systems. The planet’s warming could be part of that icy blend, even while climate change is making winters milder overall.

The warming is primarily natural, but, why is it separated from “climate change”? Are they not the same? Oh, right, cult.

There is research suggesting that Arctic warming is weakening the jet stream, allowing the cold air to escape to the south, especially when a blast of additional warming strikes the stratosphere and deforms the vortex. The result can be episodes of plunging temperatures, even in places that rarely get nipped by frost.

Strangely, not one bit of research is cited. This is all the ravings of a cult.

Of course, bitter cold from the polar vortex has long been a part of the North American weather picture. Amy Butler, a research scientist at the NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory, has said that she has yet to find any long-term trend in polar vortex disruptions, which “occur naturally even in the absence of climate change.”

So, Ms. Butler is basically saying that the whole talking point from the climate cult is mule fritters.

But Judah Cohen, director of seasonal forecasting at Atmospheric and Environmental Research, a company that provides information to clients about weather and climate-related risk, has identified general trends in winter storms. He was an author of a paper last year in the journal Nature Climate Change that found a sharp increase in Northeast winter storms over the decade from 2008 to 2018.

“Severe winter weather is much more frequent when the Arctic is warmest,” Cohen said, adding, “It’s not in spite of climate change but related to climate change.”

Even if true, it doesn’t prove causation mostly/solely from Mankind’s carbon footprint. Also, what about all the big snows and cold snaps during the mid-1940’s to about 1978, when temps were slowly going down, to the point some were wondering if a new ice age was approaching? If the Arctic was colder shouldn’t that have meant less snow and cold, per cult “science?” Meh, these are cultists protecting their Beliefs.

    “Bad weather” lol
    A bit of an understatement
The Texas poeergrid is owned by a fir profit company whose main responsibility is to its shareholders NOT to its customers Should profits be more important than itscustoners?

    Lol
Teach what do you think is causing the Earth to heat up if it is not CO2
Are you keeping that knowledge secret ? If so why ?
CO2 has been known to be a potent greenhouse gas for 120 years

    Well thanks for asking !
Last year renewable energy in USA finally surpassed coal generated electricity generated by coal
No capitalist will invest in a new coal powered plant that costs 3-4 billion
A new coal plant hasn’t opened in 10+ years
The average age of a coal fired electric plant is 40 years in the USA most are nearing retirement age
What does the future look like to you ?

It looks pretty damn cold if Texas is any indication of what “renewable” energy can do.

“Last year renewable energy in USA finally surpassed coal generated electricity generated by coal”

It sure did and when people need energy the most it’s not there any more. The reason so-called renewables surpassed coal is because the government subsidizes the phony renewables and is forcing coal plants to close. The benefit? Billionaire demofascists get richer and China gets to build the plants and get the jobs.

“No capitalist will invest in a new coal powered plant that costs 3-4 billion”

Capitalists will invest in anything that will make them money but when the government lead by a bunch of fukin cultists make a $300 million dollar coal plant cost $3-4 billion to build and comply no wonder they won’t touch it.

“A new coal plant hasn’t opened in 10+ years”

That’s a lie. Over 300 new coal plants have opened in Red China and they are doing just fine. They get the jobs, the growth and we get screwed. In America where we need the energy to remain energy independent the feds force plant closures.

“The average age of a coal fired electric plant is 40 years in the USA most are nearing retirement age”

Which will cause our ability to generate electricity even more critical because wind and solar farms can’t do it. Period.

“What does the future look like to you ?”

It looks like unless you’re a short-sighted idiot we better start building nuclear power plants and reopening and exploiting every source of power.

I just watched a video of a helicopter running on fossil fuel spraying a chemical made from fossil fuels onto a wind turbine made with fossil fuels to “un-freeze” it . It was awesome and a glimpse into our Green Future. How many people died in Texas because they won’t use fossil fuels? Hairy, how many will die because of a cult? Hairy, how many do you want to die?

Texas is not connected to the US grids, so not sure they’re ready to be a separate republic quite yet, if a cold snap requires an emergency order.

It’s been market forces shutting down coal plants. Natural gas is cheaper and cleaner.

…the bottom line: the root cause of the TX blackouts is a national and state policy that has prioritized the adoption of unreliable wind/solar energy over reliable energy(coal, gas, nuclear).

    William Teach: Weather happens.

Sure, and weather will continue to happen, even as Earth’s surface continues to warm.

William Teach: The warming is primarily natural

Actually, the warming is primarily artificial. Without human causation, the climate would probably be cooling slightly.
    https://archive.epa.gov/epa/sites/production/files/2016-07/models-observed-human-natural.png

William Teach: why is it separated from “climate change”?

Global warming refers to the average warming of the Earth’s surface. Climate change refers to regional changes to climate that are occurring due to the warming.

William Teach: Strangely, not one bit of research is cited.

A number of studies have linked Arctic warming with changes in mid-latitude weather patterns; however, the evidence is still inconclusive.

    * Kim et al., Weakening of the stratospheric polar vortex by Arctic sea-ice loss, Nature Communications 2014.
    * Francis & Skific, Evidence linking rapid Arctic warming to mid-latitude weather patterns, Philosophical Transactions A 2015.
    * Cohen et al., Warm Arctic episodes linked with increased frequency of extreme winter weather in the United States, Nature Communications 2018.

William Teach: it doesn’t prove causation mostly/solely from Mankind’s carbon footprint.

We know global warming is primarily due to humans, so the follow-on effects would also be due to humans.

  5. david7134 says:

CO2 being responsible for anything is an absurd hypothesis which has been ruled out as a major concern for alteration of climate. Thinking people have noted that CO2 elevation comes after temp elevation, which is sensible as CO2 is a byproduct of metabolism which would be increased with higher temps.

Perhaps the stupidest thing liberals say is that there is no other explanation, you do not have to give another explanation except to say, I don’t know. We know very little about the way our planet works. Then it is beyond ridiculous to assert that humans are the reason. As to publications, forget that, the peer review system in most areas of science is broken. In climate science it does not exist. Then idiot liberals keep justifying there opinions by correlation resulting in causation. That has no place in science. A simple experiment with greenhouses shows that CO2 has zero influence.

But the politicians have gotten into this and as usual screw up everything. The biggest polluters are China and India and no effort is made at changing their practices.

    • Zachriel says:

david7134: CO2 being responsible for anything is an absurd hypothesis which has been ruled out as a major concern for alteration of climate.

The basic physics of how CO2 warms the Earth’s surface has been known for more than a century. Indeed, without the greenhouse effect the Earth’s oceans would be largely frozen.

      • david7134 says:

No, that is a fabrication. CO2 does not have a major influence. Well established. If CO2 was a major issue, other than political, then liberals would accept concepts such as CO2 reclamation and nuclear energy. They don’t, so that means the issue has another purpose for our so called leaders.

Now, I am back to avoiding grade school children.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

          david,

CO2 is the primary reason the Earth is warming now.

Bill Gates is investing millions in CO2 reclamation, including incorporating CO2 into building materials, e.g., concrete. Nuclear power is another viable option, but expensive.

We’ve previously discussed this in some detail. Burning one gallon of gasoline produces about 20 pounds of CO2. We humans add nearly 40 billion TONS of CO2 to the atmosphere annually. What are your ideas for reclaiming 40 billion tons of CO2 each year?

          • Jl says:

Actually, though you don’t want to admit it, is that changes in cloud cover can account for the warming, as shown. Much more for you, J, if you’d like. https://twitter.com/kenneth72712993/status/1353975960689901573?s=21

          • david7134 says:

No Jeff, that is your delusion. CO2 has no influence. Human activity is doing anything. If you were serious you would compel China to curb emissions. You have not proven a thing about CO2. And nuclear power is expensive only due to the environmentalist.

          • drowningpuppies says:

We’ve previously discussed this in some detail.

Annually termites emit more CO2 worldwide into the atmosphere than all of humankind.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Termites don’t feed on fossil fuels, they feed on wood. The carbon in fossil fuels have been locked underground for millions of years and is being released rapidly. Wood is formed by extracting CO2 from the atmosphere and converting to cellulose. When a tree dies it eventually is converted to CO2 with or without termites. The trees take CO2 from the atmosphere and return it in short order, therefore no net increase in CO2.

        • drowningpuppies says:

Yeah it’s like a different kind of CO2, right Rimjob?

        • Zachriel says:

david7134: No, that is a fabrication.

Calculate the blackbody radiation of the Earth. The Earth’s average temperature without the greenhouse effect would be a chilly ≈-18°C rather than the balmy ≈+15°C that it is. Nor can the Earth’s past climate be explained without reference to atmospheric CO2.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

david7134 typed: Now, I am back to avoiding grade school children.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

david: “…CO2 elevation comes after temp elevation, which is sensible as CO2 is a byproduct of metabolism which would be increased with higher temps.

Finally, a hypothesis! The Earth is warming naturally which increases metabolism causing the release of more CO2 from living things. Do you really believe that plants, animals, protists and bacteria are responsible for the increase in CO2 seen the past century?

  7. Kye says:

“ERCOT which is in charge of the power grid in TX says that the piweroutages are the result of failures in the supply of natural gas to their power stations”

No they didn’t, stop lying. They said the failures in gas supply were apart of the problem which means failures in the delivery method. They did not prepare for this type of freezing weather. The fact that the wind mills are frozen as are the solar panels and covered with 8″ of snow and ice are part of the problem too. The gas situation is because of being unprepared. The wind and solar problem is because they are stupid electrical systems and only exist to funnel cash to billionaire democommie supporters.

The North and Northeast get freezing weather like this all the time and our natural gas power stations have no problem. Also part of the problem is something we also do get in the Northeast: frozen and downed power lines. Happens all the time. That’s a failure of the grid delivery system and it is seemingly unfixable.

Wind mills and solar power are not responsible for the outages by themselves but they sure didn’t help the situation. The real problem is the closed minds of the cult that wants all “renewable” energy. A few nuclear plants and this could all be solved (except the downed power lines of course).

  8. Zachriel says:

Kye: A few nuclear plants and this could all be solved (except the downed power lines of course).

Nuclear power output is also down, though most of the current problem is with gas.

  9. Kye says:

Why would nuclear power output be down unless they are taking plants offline? Either way, a few new nuclear plants and all this could be solved. ( I feel like I’m repeating myself).

If you cultists out there are looking for some energy panacea you’re in for a big disappointment. I’m no energy maven but it seems to me the most reliable energy is nuclear followed by natural gas, oil, coal, wind and finally solar (somewhere geothermal is in there but I have no idea where). I would figure a sane mix of most of these would suffice for most of the country. Finding that sane mix should not be left to politicians, lobbyists or cultists but rather the engineers and specialists in those fields. Denying the production and use of any form of energy is down right stupid. Regardless of the type produced the U.S. will do a better, cleaner and more profitable job than any other country if left to it’s abilities.

Stopping the production of energy is as dumb as stopping the production of food. Both are an absolute necessity for human life and prosperity and both if not consumed by the producers can be sold. There is no down side to encouraging production of either. Especially when done because of a silly unproven idea that morphed into a silly religion for vegetarians and atheists. Let them go back to their pyramids and crystals and leave food and energy production to the pros.

    • Zachriel says:

Kye: Why would nuclear power output be down unless they are taking plants offline?

Apparently because of problems with the South Texas nuclear facility’s feedwater system.

Another problem is that most of the Texas power system is isolated from the national grid, meaning they can’t bring in energy from outside.

Kye: Stopping the production of energy is as dumb as stopping the production of food.

      Energy is essential.

Kye: There is no down side to encouraging production of either.

That is clearly incorrect. Think London smog. All energy production involves tradeoffs, including air and water pollution, and environmental and climate degradation. For the markets to work effectively, these costs have to be included in the market pricing.
