New York state denies permits for two proposed natural gas-fired power plants
New York environmental regulators on Wednesday rejected permits to build two natural gas-fired power plants as the state focuses more on renewable projects and energy efficiency to meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) denied air emissions permits for NRG Energy Inc’s proposed Astoria gas turbine project in the New York City borough of Queens, and Danskammer Energy LLC’s proposed Danskammer repowering project in Newburgh on the Hudson River.
In both cases, the DEC said: “Our review determined the proposed project does not demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.”
The 2019 act seeks to achieve 100% zero-emission electricity in the state by 2040.
This has made many Democrat Warmists happy
New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement applauding the DEC’s decisions to deny the permits.
“Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, and we owe it to future generations to meet our nation-leading climate and emissions reduction goals,” the Democratic governor said.
Kathy doesn’t have to worry about paying her electric bill, the taxpayer does. She won’t have to turn out any lights nor prioritize heating vs food. And AOC is thrilled

Let’s look at one of those articles
Higher Home Heating Costs Could Burn a Hole in Your Wallet This Winter
Pandemic-battered families face skyrocketing heating costs this winter, with year-on-year prices set to rise by as much as 54% for some households, according to the annual winter fuel outlook released this week from the Energy Information Administration.
“We expect that households across the United States will spend more on energy this winter compared with the past several winters because of these higher energy prices and because we assume a slightly colder winter than last year in much of the United States,â€Â the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in the report.
Prices are forecast to rise by more than 40% for households who use heating oil, affecting the Northeast in particular; and will increase 30% for natural gas and 54% for propane. Those who heat with electricity could see 6% increases.
How much will this hurt New Yorkers?
In August 2021, residents in the New York City metropolitan area paid a total of 22.6 cents per kWh for electricity, 56.9 percent more than the national average of 14.4 cents per kWh.
In May 2021, electricity in New York is among the most expensive in the country, with consumers paying an average of 18.27 cents per kWh. For comparison, the national average is 11.53 cents per kWh.
They could have offset this by building more reliable, efficient, low cost natural gas plants, but, not, they want expensive, unreliable solar and wind. Good luck providing energy for NYC, AOC. And, yes, those natural gas plants would make zero difference for this year, but would be helpful going forward. But, hey, no complaints, New Yorkers, you voted for this.
It is okay. NY’ers will soon be out of jobs and leave the state anyways and the conservatives will flood into PA and NH and Maine. Along with Virginia and turn those states red come election time. The same thing is happening with California. Arizona and Nevada are turning redder with each passing month as 100’s of thousands of cons leave the state and flee for greener pastures including Texas.
Does the battle then become for the hearts and minds of illegal Hispanics fleeing Socialism to the USA only to be met with a party that wants more Socialism? I think the left is being led over the cliff by the social progressives who are insane.
Denying gas-burning power plants is NY’s right. But I do think there comes a time when enough is enough and in this case, it will greatly benefit the GOP as NY continues to bleed voters and population, based upon these kinds of ideas.
And to think De Blasio is running for Governor. The first communist government in the USA. New York. Just think. Wall Street has threatened to move before and I think it is not a stretch that they will make that leap if NY were to ever vote De Blasio into the office and when that happens here comes Cuba or Venezuela right in the heart of America.
Hey, New Yorkers have the government for which they have voted! I have no problem at all with New Yorkers getting exactly that for which they have asked.
It has been said that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged. As the libs in the northeast reap the results of the policies for which they have voted, maybe a few of them will wake the f(ornicate) up!
It’s a bit amusing, in a way: our more liberal states are in the northeast, which has colder winters than the more sensible states in the South. As the left continue to fight the use of fossil fuels, they’re going to feel the effects of depending more and more upon solar power for sparktricity and heating, during a New England winter; good luck with that!
Then there’s California, out on the left coast. Home heating isn’t much of an issue for the majority of the Pyrite State’s population, but air conditioning is . . . and that’s all electricity. They’ve had rolling brownouts already during the hot months, and now Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant and four (?) natural gas plants are going to go out of service in the next few years; they’ve already received a couple of regulatory extensions. New power plants need to be built to replace them, but even in California, which gets a lot of sunshine in the south and middle parts of the state, solar plants may not be enough.
Ban subsidies for wind and solar. When rate payers find out what those two losers cost, they’ll wake up.
New York state currently obtains over 50% of its electricity from nuclear and renewable (NY alone generates 11% of the nation’s hydroelectricity).
Disallowing the two fossil-fueled plants is not why prices are high in New York – they’re high everywhere.
Troll Elwood: Pant on fire again. If you just keep repeating your Masters’ lies, you will never be Right.
Why not try doing some research for yourself instead of just repeating their lies?
Be your own man; be an American, and be nobody’s slave.
Bill the Bot,
You repeat the same opprobrium.
Why are you afraid of discussion?

New York does not want the Electricity from Natural Gas. That’s fine with they should NOT be allowed to import electricity from other states or countries (Canada). New York can be the test state for the green deal electricity production from wind and solar ONLY
Perhaps “shadow president” trump can issue an executive order banning Canada selling electricity to the US.
NY already produces over 50% of its electricity from nuclear and renewables (including hydro-).
Many American homes are heated directly by natural gas so it’s not going away soon.
Elwood. Thank you. Lying trolls show us who and what their Masters are afraid of. Obviously, you are afraid of Donald Trump and other patriots.
We already knew your Masters were afraid of us, but thanks for the reminder.
Troll Elwood. Thanks again for showing us who your Masters are afraid of…. Donald Trump and other patriots.
If you ever stop trolling with your Masters’ lies, we might get concerned that you are not afraid of us anymore.
So thank you for reminding us of your Masters’ fear.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
