Do Vaccines Stop People From Getting And Transmitting COVID?

USA Today gives it a shot

Fact check: Vaccines protect against contracting, spreading COVID-19

The claim: The COVID-19 vaccine doesn’t stop you from getting or spreading the virus, so it can’t protect others

More than 70% of adults in the U.S. are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Children started receiving their vaccines in early November, and booster shots may be on the way for most Americans.

COVID-19 cases dropped after the vaccines were introduced in the spring. But on Facebook, some still doubt whether the shots work.

“Since the (vaccine) doesn’t stop you from getting it or spreading it… How …are you actually protecting others,” reads text in a Nov. 13 post from a page called The Lion’s Roar.

OK, so, one rando posts something and the USA Today fact checks? OK, fine, this is the type of thing you see all around, and people do actually wonder, because we keep seeing articles in the news about this very thing. Rando’s wouldn’t be posting if they weren’t seeing this somewhere

In clinical trials, all three vaccines authorized in the U.S. were found to be safe and effective at preventing severe COVID-19 cases. Since then, public health officials have acknowledged the shots aren’t 100% effective at preventing infection – and research suggests immunity wanes over time.

Hence the reason I took the booster. I got the vaccine originally because they said I had a 94% chance with Pfizer stopping me from getting the Chinese coronavirus in the first place.

But that doesn’t mean the COVID-19 vaccines are worthless. Experts and public health officials say they do protect people from getting infected and spreading the virus.

“This is false information,” Akiko Iwasaki, a professor of immunobiology and molecular, cellular and developmental biology at Yale University, said in an email. “Vaccines provide significant protection from ‘getting it’ – infection – and ‘spreading it’ – transmission – even against the delta variant.”

OK, so, that’s saying that you can, in fact, get it and spread it when vaccinated. This is why you see rando’s on the Internet saying it doesn’t provide protection like the Experts and Fact Checkers say. Remember, the headline says that it protects from contracting and spreading COVID. It would probably be more proper to say “It’s like wearing sunscreen: you have a much lower chance of getting sunburn than when not wearing.” Of course, you can’t spread sunburn.

The problem is, the fact check spends more time on saying “you have less of a chance on getting COVID if vaccinate” along with “you’re symptoms will be less severe”, than proving the headline.

Fully vaccinated people made up about 9% of reported COVID-19 deaths in 13 U.S. jurisdictions between April and July, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC studies have also shown unvaccinated people are 10 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19.

The agency says on its website that, while breakthrough infections are possible, “most people who get COVID-19 are unvaccinated.” Experts told USA TODAY the shots provide considerable protection against infection and transmission.

“Yes, it is true that vaccinated individuals can also be infected by and spread SARS-CoV-2 to others,” Shweta Bansal, an associate professor of biology at Georgetown University, said in an email. “However, the evidence is crystal clear that risk of transmission for a vaccinated individual is significantly lower than for an unvaccinated individual.”

Um

You may complain about the messenger, but, the message is factual.

Research indicates vaccinated individuals who get infected with COVID-19 can transmit the virus at a similar level as unvaccinated people. But data also show they get better faster than the unvaccinated, meaning they may be less likely to spread the virus to others. Several studies awaiting peer review back that up.

Wait, what? I thought the headline said it protected against transmission? And then the fact checker wonders why rando’s on the Internet wonder why in the heck they should take the vaccine. Articles like this just sow confusion. They would be best at just saying “look, you have less of a chance of getting it, and, if you do, the symptoms will mostly be much less severe and gone quicker. That’s why you want the vaccine.”

Based on our research, we rate FALSE the claim that the COVID-19 vaccine doesn’t stop you from getting or spreading the virus, so it can’t protect others. While vaccinated individuals can get COVID-19, experts and public health officials say they are less likely to contract the virus than unvaccinated people. That means they’re also less likely to spread the virus to others. When vaccinated people do get sick, the chances of severe illness, hospitalization or death are low. Research indicates they also get better faster than their unvaccinated counterparts.

Um, they just spent all this time saying that you can, in fact, get COVID and spread it while vaccinated. How is rando’s statement false?

The fed gov’t shields Pfizer from liability. Gives it billions of dollars. Makes Americans take its product. But won’t let you see the data supporting its safety/efficacy. Who does the gov’t work for?

The FDA has asked a federal judge to make the public wait until the year 2076 to disclose all of the data and information it relied upon to license Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. That is not a typo. It wants 55 years to produce this information to the public.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

This is just more right-wing lawfare + propaganda. The FDA (per the courts) can supply 500 pages of documents per month. The plaintiffs have requested 329,000 pages. The plaintiffs want the FDA to stop everything and have all their personnel satisfy the plaintiff FOIA request.

Vaccine manufacturers are now and have been for decades shielded from most liabilities in 42 U.S. Code § 300aa–22 – Standards of responsibility. Pfizer is not special. You can do your own research and look it up.

Further, in Mar 2020, trump’s DHS head, Mr Azar, made several amendments (Declarations) to the PREP Act protecting health care workers, National Guard etc from liability.

In addition, citizens harmed by the vaccines can be compensated via the CICP!

After all, all the right has is disinformation.

  2. Part of the problem is how they skew the data. Our noble host quoted:

Fully vaccinated people made up about 9% of reported COVID-19 deaths in 13 U.S. jurisdictions between April and July, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The problem with that is that the percentage of fully vaccinated — meaning: those two weeks or further past their last shot date — was not that high during that time period. The vaccines were not approved for those under 70, save for people in health care or education, until March, and due to vaccine shortages, I couldn’t get my first shot until April Fool’s Day.

The second shot was also delayed a bit more than a week, until Cinco de Mayo, due to issues at the local Health Department.

Yeah, I’m just thoroughly brilliant, and I notice things that others miss — at least things that don’t require my bad ears — but I can’t be the only person who has noticed that the propagandists like to use skewed data.

Mr Teach is exercising his all-or-none muscles! Paraphrasing Voltaire: “Don’t let ‘perfect’ be the enemy of ‘good’.” The vaccines reduce Covid spread, hospitalizations and deaths.

The death RATE is several fold lower in vaccinated than unvaccinated.

    • Dana says:

      The learned Mr Dowd wrote:

The death RATE is several fold lower in vaccinated than unvaccinated.

Which ought to mean that the mandates are ridiculous; it should be up to the individual to choose whether he wishes to bear the increased risks.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        Again with the all-or-none…

The rate is lower, not zero.

        • CarolAnn says:

Ahem, Elwood P. Dowd you are projecting since it is you who want to force everyone to get questionable injections. That’s the all-or-none approach. We are for free choice because we don’t believe these shots are beneficial for everybody, as effective as you’ve been brainwashed into believing they are, can be outright deadly to some, allow no legal recourse for those of us damaged or killed by them due to legal exemptions and are not as effective as personal immunity.

It’s you who want everybody to get this shot whether they should or not, whether they’ve already had Covid or not and most importantly whether they want it or not. We are still Americans and still supposedly have free choice. You seem to be very afraid of this flu and want everybody else inconvenienced and have their freedom curtailed to protect you. If you’re that scared put on three masks and lock yourself in your home. That’s your right. Locking me in mine is not your right.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Teach complains: “OK, so, one rando posts something and the USA Today fact checks?”

So this is the first time Teach heard this statement?

The claim: The COVID-19 vaccine doesn’t stop you from getting or spreading the virus, so it can’t protect others.

  5. ruralcounsel says:

Since we can’t even believe the numbers from the CDC or FDA or Pfizer or anyone else, any conclusions being drawn from those numbers are suspect. Reporting of adverse effects has been suppressed, definitions of what is a “vaccine” and who is “vaccinated” have been altered, deaths within 2 weeks of vaccination are attributed to the virus and not the vaccine.

The experience in other countries reportedly runs counter to the CDC narrative.

It’s no wonder nobody believes anyone else. Everything depends on good faith, and that was one of the first casualties of the pandemic.

  6. Professor hale says:

The strongest evidence that we are all being lied to about COVID is that the national media is lock-step proclaiming the same message, as if it is coordinated and vetted ahead of time. In anything run by major corporations, there should be some significant dissent in the media. For COVID, zero dissent. All big media and big data are in total agreement and ruthlessly suppress any dissent.

And dissent over something as universal as vaccinations should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

hale: And dissent over something as universal as vaccinations should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

You may wish to re-examine your “proof”.

And dissent over something as global as global warming should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

And dissent over something as universal as a global pandemic should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

And dissent over something as universal as taxes should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

And dissent over something as universal as universal health care should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

And dissent over something as universal as race should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

And dissent over something as universal as LGQBT should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

And dissent over something as universal as religion should not break down on party lines. Each political party should have similar numbers of dissenters.

Our leaders admit that vaccinated can contract and spread covid-19 and it variants. Are people hiding under a rock?
    https://rumble.com/vpd5wy-why-a-vaccine-card-if-you-can-still-contract-covid-19-and-spread-it.html

  8. Ned Crabb says:

Why are “vaccinated” people dying at all????
If you took the jab, you did not prevent contraction nor spreading of the virus. The virus kills very few who contract it (CDC has admitted and documented this).
So, you took an experimental drug to do what exactly? Virtue signal? What if millions more are seriously injured or permanently disabled from these “vaccines”? What if tens of thousands more die? (VAERS data, not mine). Will we do something? When is it enough? Why are we jabbing kids who have an almost non existent chance of dying from it?

    Global psychosis.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

It’s ironic that anti-vaxxers now admit that Donald J. Trump foisted a deadly vaccine on Americans. Why wasn’t Trump strong enough to stop this?

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

There is no evidence that people are being harmed or dying from the vaccines.

Most Covians here and Mr Teach voluntarily received the vaccine. Ask them why.

      • CarolAnn says:

You know Elwood P. Dowd, you have so many demeaning names for people it can be confusing. What’s a Covidian? Is it meant to demean or insult another?

BTW, there’s plenty of evidence that thousands are being harmed and killed by the so called vaccine. Do you live in an information bubble? Do you have no access to contrary opinions or just read and reread the same propaganda, opinions and scientific reports over and over?

        • CarolAnn says:

Elwood P. Dowd, I found out what a Covidian is. Thanks for introducing me to the term. It is serendipitous that American Thinker happened to have an article by Andrew Thomas which begins by defining Covidian:

“Covidians are the cabal of Biden officials, the CDC, Dr. Fauci, the vaccine producers, the leftist-run media, and local politicians who irrationally push Covid mandates over the restraints of the Constitution and rational thought.”

          Here’s the entire post:

          https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/11/logic_and_data_weapons_to_defeat_the_covidians.html

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

          Hi CarolAnn,

A Covidian is a commenter at The Cove. It is not demeaning. You may have noticed that Mr Teach uses demeaning and insulting names in most of his posts – loons, randos, warmists, communists, fascists etc.

BTW, there is little evidence that thousands are being harmed and killed by the vaccine. Would you be so kind as to direct us to the evidence as we cannot find it.

If you have scientific reports that support your positions please direct us to them. Thanks.

  9. Pat says:

I got a forced vaccinated from my job in order to keep it and picked up something after getting it. I still don’t feel well and lost sense of smell and taste. BP higher now with difficulty since this worthless vaccine forced on someone with natural immunity exposed constantly to Covid 19 with no ill effect or positive testing until after vaccination.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

After our voluntary vaccination and booster, I feel great and my sense of smell and taste have never been better. BP is down, hair is growing back, boom 300 yd drives with slight draw… Life is great!

Data is not the plural of anecdote.
