Joe Biden Addresses High Gas Prices: Americans Can Save Money if They Buy Electric Cars
President Joe Biden promoted his efforts to lower gas prices on Tuesday, but he reminded Americans they would save more money on gas if they owned electric cars.
“For the hundreds of thousands of folks who bought one of those electric cars, they’re going to save $800 to $1000 in fuel costs this year,” Biden said, referring to the $112,595 electric Hummer pickup he test drove at a General Motors factory in Detroit earlier this month.
The president appeared frustrated that some Americans continue blaming his environmental agenda for higher gas prices, dismissing it as a “myth.”
“My effort to combat climate change is not raising the price of gas, what it’s doing is increasing the availability of jobs,” Biden insisted.
He claimed his government subsidies for green energy and electric cars would only help Americans get jobs and save more money.
Except, they are not subsidies: they are a tax rebate, meaning (most likely, since every article, dealer, etc, will say to talk with your tax professional) that they will just reduce your taxable income. A $7,500 reduction means you’re net taxable income will be, say, $40,000, at which point you go to the schedule to see how much you should have paid in taxes. For 2021 that’s $4606 filing single. And you paid $4607 from your check. You get a dollar back! Well, really, you saved around $1640, based on the difference between filing at $40k vs 47,500. That’s not $7,500, eh?
But, Joe is so divorced from reality that thinks everyone can afford an EV, which, interestingly, is not something he drives. None of the vehicles in his big motorcades are EVs.

So, our Energy Secretary is lying about what type of vehicle she drives (she’s gonna have to lease something different, with Volts going bye bye). And she doesn’t know how many barrels of oil the U.S. uses daily. You’d think that would be an important, and relevant, number to know.
Biden announced plans to release 50 million gallons of oil from the Strategic Oil Reserves to help lower prices but cautioned Americans it would take a while to have an effect on gas prices.
“While our combined actions will not solve the problem of high gas prices overnight, it will make a difference,” he said. It will take time, but before long, you should see the price of gas drop where you fill up your tank.”
Biden’s efforts did not immediately have the desired effect on the oil market as prices rose over three percent per barrel on Tuesday morning after his announcement.
Huh. The U.S. used 18.19 million barrels a day in 2020, which was obviously down a bit. 50 million covers us for just over two days.

Remember over 25% of the now well over 200000 deposits for their EVs taken by Ford were put down by fleet owners who are looking for THE lowest ownership costs over 5 years. The levelized cost of EV batteries goes down each year

The fact of the matter is that electric cars hover around the $51,000 average.
Gas powered cars have plenty of cars below the $30,000 range.
(It is also funny in a sad way that Hairy used to claim that electric cars were cheaper than gas cars. Now he appears to have recognized his lies and changed his tune.)
Hairy thinks that the average consumer wants the same vehicle as that deployed by fleets.
Secondly, he still tries to say that the costs of EV’s are cheaper by only looking at the first 5 years of ownership. The average length of ownership of vehicles is just over 9 years in the US.
Hairy cherry picks the data on “five years” because at 6-8 years, the battery packs of an EV need to be replaced. For the Tesla that Hairy always touts, that cost is $16,000 – $23,000 well over lifetime cost of maintenance for gas cars.
EV batteries are actually going up in price now. Not down. Facts are hated by Hairy.
Perhaps Hairy has forgotten the shady deal made by a company owned by Joe Biden’s son where the company had participated in the killing of cobalt miners which is a key ingredient in EV batteries.
The company was then sold to a Chinese firm which Hunter Biden had a stake in.
Hairy always condemned the Trump children for what he declared were shady deals, yet he is silent on Biden’s drug addict kid making millions while killing innocent minors and dealing with the Chinese.
Hairy always complains about Teach selling products from China, yet he has no problem with Chinese EV batteries that are premised on abusive labor practices.
Hairy hates facts, data, stats and any type of moral consistency.
Then again, all the left has is hate.

Plug in hybrids are not bad vehicles at all. You can recharge them at home — if you have the ability to do so — but a gasoline engine enables you to go long distances without having to find a charging station and spend an hour waiting for the thing to recharge.
My older daughter has a 2018 Prius hybrid, though not a plug-in variety. She gets over 50 MPG, and can, if she chooses, switch to straight electric drive for short trips. That’s a pretty reasonable way of doing things. The biggest problem is that she has said it won’t go over 35 MPH on straight electric, which wouldn’t be a problem in the city, but if she hit the arterial roads, would be too slow.
If the left were pushing hybrids, they’d be making a lot of sense, but because the warmunists always go for the extremes, they devolve into their usual stupidity.

One good way to reduce the cost of fuel would be suspension of the gas taxes.
