Stable democracies are rare and are contrary to human nature. History tells us that the mass of people DO prefer a strongman leader. They like to be led. Americans are not genetically different from the rest of the world. Americans are not genetically superior to other humans.
We choose to organize a functional government based on a framework, our Constitution. It’s not guaranteed. President Trump lost the election and tried to stay in office in defiance of American ideals and the Constitution. If the system had not held, and Trump and his thugs had been able to block certification, the decision could have gone to the statehouses, dominated by Republicans. We were that close. The next time the system may not hold.

Trump did not try to stay in office. If he had refused to leave after Jan 20th then your lie would be the truth.
He conceded after a long legal fight which was his right. He left office on the 20th of January and handed the keys to Biden.
