These are the same people who scream for green energy and forcing Everyone Else to take the train
Can bighorns, a bullet train and a huge solar farm coexist in the Mojave Desert?
To most travelers on Interstate 15 between Barstow and Las Vegas, the Mojave Desert’s jagged Soda Mountains rise above a seemingly lifeless wasteland of hellish sand dunes, lava flows and vast flatlands.
But scientists say the scorched terrain just half a mile north of the Mojave National Preserve’s aptly named Devil’s Playground is a deceptively delicate and vital ecosystem rich in wildlife: tortoises, foxes, badgers, bobcats and bighorn sheep.
Now, proposals to build a high-speed electric rail linking Southern California to Las Vegas and revive a long-dead solar project in the area have triggered a clash with conservationists over how best to ensure that bighorn sheep populations do not become genetically isolated — or wind up as roadkill.
Of particular concern was a recent announcement that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is reviewing a revised version of the controversial Soda Mountain Solar Project that includes requests for permits to “take,” or fatally injure, desert tortoises, and alter desert washes during construction.
“We can’t let this solar project happen,” said Chris Clarke of the nonprofit National Parks Conservation Assn.
“The value of this landscape and its habitat,” he said, “far outweighs the value of energy the proposed project would generate.”
Solar, wind, geothermal, hydrothermal, trains, etc, the climate cultists all say we should have them, but, that’s only theoretical. As soon as you try and actually do the projects, they look to shut them down.
State wildlife authorities will evaluate the project’s environmental impacts, as required by the California Environmental Quality Act.
“Let’s all take a deep breath,” said Chuck Bonham, director of state Fish and Wildlife. “The desert is an invaluable landscape, and any proposed solar project has got to go through a public process.
If these ever happen, it will take 20+ years, so, why bother?
Meanwhile
Scotland’s green-obsessed left-separatist government has been left with egg on its face by revelations that dozens of gigantic onshore wind turbines are having to be hooked up to diesel generators, leaking thousands of litres of hydraulic oil into the countryside.
Scottish Power — led by a Spaniard, Ignacio Galan, and actually a subsidiary of Spanish firm Iberdrola — conceded that some 71 of its turbines had to be hooked up to diesel generators to keep them warm in December, according to the Sunday Mail, with a whistleblower telling the left-leaning newspaper that problems with the turbines are deep-seated.
Oops.
No need for them to protest! Right-wing terrorists are intent on knocking out electrical substations!
Sorry, child, “white supremacists” DNE “right-wing”.
They’re actually closer to lefties, in that they obsess over race.
Try again!
Oh, Stormy!
In your “mind”, white supremacists are now lefties, LOL…
Try again!
February 6th, in east-central Kentucky, 57.2º F, sunny skies! How can you not love
global warmingclimate change?Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter; could he possibly have gotten it wrong?
It’s 74 at 3:39 CDT north of Houston, looks like ‘Before Summer’ is around the corner. Don’t use groundhogs for weather around here very much.
The Weather Channel sent not one but two certified meteorologists, Jen Carfagno and Alex Wilson, to Gobbler’s Knob, just outside of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to get Punxsutawney Phil’s prognostication. Surely, surely! you aren’t telling me that the Weather Channel has been taken in by a hoax by Groundhog Day?
Believe the science!
My brother was working on a solar project in the Mojave Desert.
He talked about (at least) one time a worker was running a back hoe. There were seven monitors watching, all paid for by the builder. One was there for the desert tortoise, another for native artifacts, a third for plants, etc. etc. etc. I believe my brother was there to monitor the monitors. He got paid more than the backhoe operator but only the operator was adding value to the project.
They don’t want anyone to have access to cheap energy. Remember when NG was the “clean” fossil fuel?
Good times, good times.
Natural gas emits about half as much CO2 as coal per unit of energy supplied (BTU).
Natural gas is not CO2-free but is much “cleaner” and efficient than coal for power plants.
coal: 229 pounds CO2/BTU
diesel: 161 pounds
fuel oil: 161 pounds
gasoline: 157 pounds
propane: 131 pounds
natural gas: 117 pounds
Sorry Alan the neo Nazis trying to cause a civil war and apocalypse are from the right side of our politics. They would be very offended if you called them lefties. They hate liberal Jews who are one of the core blocks of the modern Democratic party.
Lol remember when that crazy GOP rep told us that the Cali wildfires were caused by space based lasers controlled by Jewish bankers?
Coal? Alan still remembers fondly his Lionel train set that coal powered steam engines. Never really liked the diesel electric Santa Fe engines
Always humerus to read our Johnny’s posts in the morning. “They hate liberal Jews….”. You mean as opposed to hating the actual Jewish nation, Israel? I see. Leftists continually blame terror attacks on Israel simply for defending itself. “GOP rep that said Cali wildfires were caused be spaced based lasers”? I’ve heard of that being said once. Do you recall libs saying wildfires as being caused be “climate change” almost daily? Especially when there’s no proof that they are, and no proof they’re worse than they used to be, and considering that 80-90% of them are caused by humans or lightning? Johnny, your lack of self awareness is astounding sometimes…
