The transformer loss to charge an EV battery should have been obvious to anyone who knows how basic electricity works. You don’t lose much going from AC-DC, but you lose a lot going from 120 or 240 to 12V. As the article says, some mechanisms are more efficient than others, but they all lose energy across the transformer. This is why if you are doing an off-grid house solar installation, it pays to install 12v native appliances and lights so that you don’t pay the transformer loss.
