White Supremacist Skylar Meade Escaped from Prison in Idaho Shootout and Still Missing
Three prison officials were injured in the attack, one is in critical but stable condition.
Officials say the escape happened when they were trying to transfer inmate Skylar Meade back to prison after receiving medical treatment for “self-injurious behavior” but as they tried to transfer him another suspect – Nicholas Umphenour – fired at them.
Meade and Umphenour fled in a grey four-door Honda Civic. Police warned in a news release that Meade was “armed and dangerous”, and described him as a 31-year-old white man who is 5 feet, 6 inches tall.
Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar noted that Meade is a member of a white supremacist prison gang – the Aryan Knights.
Meade has been in prison since 2016 for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, according to police. He also has several previous convictions, including grand theft and felony possession of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to be released in 2036.
Both Meade and Umphenour are short, scrawny skinheads and considered armed and dangerous.
