If you were hated and vilified by an entire political party for over eight years and they finally figured out a way of faking out a way to get you into court basically over a misdemeanor and you were facing: a judge that donates to the opposite political party which should automatically eliminate him, the judge’s daughter who collects millions of dollars based on this, are jury selected from an area that’s 90% against you, DA who swear he was gonna get you, a gag order which is directed against you as the defendant which is unheard of gag orders are for yeah the prosecution not the defense, people all over the area being able to talk about you but you not being able to say a word about them, the main witnesses against you being a ****** who you’ve already paid off who signed an NDA and that wasn’t illegal, and the disbarred lawyer who already has confessed to lying under oath wouldn’t you consider yourself being unfairly persecuted and prosecuted? There is nothing illegal about ex-president Trump requesting political donations from those who would support his policies, e.g., reversing Mr Biden’s anti-American energy policies. ExxonMobil and the API already know full well that Trump will act in their interests. Their gamble is whether $1 billion will guarantee Trump’s victory. They may be concerned that their donations will be used to pay Mr Trump’s lawyers.
It is perfectly legal for candidates to trade policy promises for contributions. Free speech and Citizen’s United and all that.
